A Student Money Adviser plays a key role within Student Operations and Support at the University of Brighton, supporting our community of 14,000 Home students. The post holder will advise students about the range of financial support available covering all UK nations and will provide professional advice on developing effective and sustainable money management skills. You will be working as part of a dynamic and proactive team at the different campuses as required and you will have a flexible approach to effective teamwork.
Confidential, person-centred advice will be delivered via our SID enquiry system, email, over the phone and during in person appointments but you will also deliver talks and presentations to groups of prospective students at recruitment events, to new students during our Belong at Brighton programme and other campaigns aimed at current students throughout the academic year. You will develop and maintain strong working links with colleagues across other departments in order to ensure we are reaching students in a positive and inclusive way.
Brighton offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate traditional route courses and Apprenticeships including PGCE, Social Work and Health Sciences and we also provide support to Brighton and Sussex Medical School students, so you will be required to have a broad knowledge of different funding streams and anomalies. Our courses attract many mature students who may require additional help with supplementary grants and DWP Benefits and some understanding of the interface between Benefits and student finance is essential to this post.
As a Student Money Adviser you should have demonstrable experience of advice work within a higher education setting and/or financial capability advice. This role requires exceptional attention to detail and a forensic approach to problem solving as you will be undertaking casework involving student finance and Benefits assessments.
This post is offered on a permanent basis and the hours are full time, 37 hours per week. After an extensive induction and training programme where you will be required to be on campus 4 days per week, you will be able to move to a more hybrid pattern of working on campus 3 days per week and from home 2 days per week.
