Student and Registry Services are responsible for providing services to all students throughout their time at UCL and for supporting academic departments and administrative staff in delivering a high quality student experience. We also play a key role in co-ordinating UCL\'s governance processes and academic quality assurance operations.

UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Services (SSW) provides information, advice and welfare support for all registered students, including delivery of related student events. The UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Team (Disability Mental Health and Wellbeing) is responsible for the delivery of advice and support aimed to enable students who identify as disabled to thrive and succeed at UCL.

About the role

The Disability and Specific Learning Difficulty Team are part of the core SSW team who respond to student wellbeing enquiries and crisis management, ensuring a coordinated and holistic approach to supporting students who may be at health, safety or academic risk.

The Student Support and Wellbeing Manager (Disability and Specific Learning Difficulties) leads on the delivery of disabled student support within UCL, ensuring that the team of Advisers provide advice and support to disabled students and prospective students and those who may be affected by wellbeing and/or mental health difficulties. They work closely with the wider UCL community to ensure that disabled student support is holistic, promote inclusive teaching and learning practices, and foster a welcoming environment for disabled students.

The postholder will lead on complex cases and on developing the service, assessing current processes, feedback and university wide initiatives, making changes where needed to improve the student experience. They will act as a liaison and also guide students in communicating with external agencies responsible for providing disabled student support, including access centers, equipment and assistive technology providers and Student Loans Company.

We are currently in process of updating this role from a maternity cover role to a permanent position.

About you

Applicants must have significant knowledge and understanding of UK disability legislation and legislation relating specifically to mental health. You will have experience of working within higher education and/or an understanding of the support available to students within higher education, together with previous experience of working with adults and/or young people who identify as disabled. Applicants must have proven supervisory experience and must be adept at managing a large and demanding workload in a busy environment. Additionally, the role requires someone experienced in implementing policy and strategic plans and of undertaking reviews of business processes.
