Proposition is a charity using art to communicate about the enormous potential human beings have to support greater biodiversity and create ecological resilience. We support emerging artists with an enormous range of art practices and run a continuous programme of free public events.

We are a small dynamic and growing team with a variety of exciting projects. Our Bethnal Green art centre houses 140 artists and includes 3 galleries, a 450 capacity performance venue, a cinema room seating 60 and a Physical Arts block hosting classes of aerial, gymnastics, dance, martial arts, and boxing while having saunas and ice baths. We are taking on a new site in Poplar and hiring for our Studio Management Team.

THE ROLE



The Studio Coordinator works in the studio management team for the smooth and professional management of Proposition's artist studios. This role is responsible for managing the studios on a day-to-day basis, ensuring they are fully occupied, well organised and the studio artists are looked after, supporting their involvement in the community, are engaged with our spaces and have the opportunities of participating in our programme.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Ownership of email inbox for applications for studio space

Processing of studio applications and other applications as required

Scheduling and hosting of studio viewings

Collecting vetting documentation and signing agreements with artists to take studio space

Assist in monitoring of monthly payments and reconciling of statements; issuing of reminders for payment

Liaising with artists about maintenance requests

Assist in consulting studio artists about our programme of professional development and ensuring these opportunities and others are made available to them

Getting to know the art practices of the studio artists so that you can find ways to support them within our project

Inviting artists to give proposals for use of our spaces

Assist in shortlisting artists to be showcased on our social media and organising this

Assist in developing our community of artists and an alumni programme to grow engagement

Weekly review of communal areas making sure they are tidy and comfortable; suggest improvements and ensure agreed actions are carried out

Assist in the drafting of weekly news update and other pieces of communication

Assist with the organisation of artist socials, workshops and other activities related to the studios

Assist the Studio Management with the building of a supportive, welcoming and diverse community of artists and creatives

Assist with the curatorial programme when required

Conflict resolution with artists when required

SPECIFICATIONS



Experience & Knowledge



Experience in an administrative, coordination, or customer-facing role.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a relaxed and efficient way.

Experience handling communications (email inbox management, enquiries, scheduling).

Familiarity with processing contracts, agreements, or applications.

Basic financial administration skills (e.g, payment tracking)

Knowledge or strong interest in art and creative practices.

Skills & Abilities



Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills; able to build positive relationships and manage sensitive issues with diplomacy.

Confident using IT systems (Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, CRM or databases, and ideally Direct Debit/payment platforms).

Ability to problem-solve and take initiative when unexpected issues arise.

High attention to detail, particularly when managing agreements, payments, or scheduling.

Personal Qualities

THE TERMS



Contract:

Permanent

Salary:

up to 30,000 per annum

Hours:

Full-time (9.30am-5.30pm), including occasional weekend and evening working. Proposition has a policy of no paid overtime but offers time-off in-lieu.

Probation period:

6 months

Notice period:

1 month after passing probation
