Support & Advocacy Worker- Penelope Project

Hybrid- expectation of office working every week with travel to Shropshire

37 Hours per week

West Mercia Women's Aid (WMWA) is working hard to continue to provide much-needed support for women and children affected by domestic abuse.

We are seeking to recruit a DA expert to work in a support and advocacy role working within our project with the armed forces, providing essential support to women and children who have been affected by domestic abuse. This role requires face-to-face support and working in an environment with serving soldiers, spouses and civil servants.

This is a new project currently funded until October 2027



We are looking for someone who is:

Committed to the values of empowerment and equality Has experience of working as part of a team to improve outcomes for the vulnerable Holds knowledge and understanding of the military community Is passionate about working within this community to achieve accessibility to all A driver with the ability to undertake regular site visits in Shropshire and more specifically to Cosford and Shawbury

Your role will include:



To assist the project co-ordinator to increase awareness of and accessibility to domestic abuse support services for soldiers, army personnel and their families in the Armed forces in Shropshire.

Provide client-centred and trauma-informed advocacy and support to victims of domestic abuse who are part of the armed forces community. This includes serving soldiers, spouse, and civil servants.

To provide face to face and telephone-based advocacy and support to those experiencing domestic abuse living in their own homes and/or in other arrangements in the community.

To complete structured support and safety planning programme with each individual /family to deliver agreed outcomes

Identify creative opportunities for contact and lead domestic abuse drop in clinics within the community to allow safe accessibility to WMWA support services. This includes travelling to drop in clinics within Shropshire. Establish and maintain professional relationships; signposting to specialist military support services alongside effectively working with other partner agencies.
Support the Project coordinator to deliver training to army personnel to increase awareness of DA and support services

Support the project coordinator to deliver an Ambassadors programme to enable those with lived experience of DA to support those in their community to access support and advice

Engage in the ongoing development of the Project, informing the work to shape services and programmes that are responsive to the changing needs of clients and their families from the armed forces community

An understanding of the importance of maintaining clear professional boundaries is essential in this busy role.

Salary of 27,053.42

25 days Annual leave, plus Bank Holidays. (FTE)
