About the Service
Mayfield Road is a temporary supported service for men who are experiencing homelessness with multiple and complex needs. The service support people who are homeless with complex and multiple needs. This means that you will be supporting people who have significant trauma, behaviours that challenge us, addictions, mental health, history of non-attendance and not keeping to building rules, mental health and psychological trauma, behaviours that are classed as risk taking and potentially, they are known to the criminal justice services and violence and aggression. Relationships and how we interact and respond to people are key, how we reflect on our needs, behaviours and reactions to the work we do are key to being able to deliver the support. This can mean at times the service can be chaotic and there is a need to respond to emergency situations.
Support is provided on a 1-2-1 basis as well as on an ad hoc basis.
Mayfield Road is based in the south side of Edinburgh. The hours of work are Monday- Friday with on call duties.
About the Role
The Support Worker involves:
Working with chaos and ambivalence
Not repeating trauma previously experienced
Provide support in a non-judgemental and non-reactive but responsive service
Working at the persons pace and where they are on the cycle of change
Reflecting on your role in the support relationship
Working within the building and in the community
Taking part in an on-call rota.
Lone working and working as part of a team.
Carrying a case load
The service is registered for delivering housing support and care at home.
Working to Health and Social Care Standards, SSSC codes of practice, contractual and legal requirements and all organisational polices and procedures.
About You
You will have:
A positive, flexible attitude, with an encouraging nature
Excellent communication skills including verbal and written
Be highly organised with the ability to work on own initiative
The ability to react efficiently and effectively in emergency situations
Be open to attending and maintaining ongoing training needs
The ability to work with chaos and ambivalence
The ability to work both within the community and within the building.

The ability to work with people at their pace and their skills level
The ability to work within company requirements, best practice standards and contractual requirements.
The ability to understand and communicate in the language of the supported person
The ability to take responsibility and to be a proactive team member as well as the ability to lone work.
The ability to manage and carry a case load
The ability to take part in on call duties and any other duties as required by the service and in line with the service Rota.
The ability to use digital technology
Possess an SVQ 2 in Health and Social Care or have the ability to work towards this qualification
Flexibility with shifts patterns including weekend work, evenings, sleepovers and waking nights
All successful candidates will be required to obtain registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up the post
