Positive Steps is a Non-Denominational Christian charity; working in Dundee since 1989 we support some of the most vulnerable people living in our community. We have a reputation for recognising local need and delivering innovative solutions. Through our community-based support and education services we engage with individuals facing a range of challenges including substance use, homelessness, mental health problems, and offending behaviour. We strive to build trusting and consistent relationships in which individuals are supported to recognise and address their difficulties and make lasting positive changes to their lives.

Our Support Workers support people with a range of challenges and problems living in their communities. We work with people to agree and provide the support they need and want. Everyone we work with is treated as an individual.

As a Housing Support Worker, you will encourage adults to develop independent living skills through a structured person-centred process that includes assessment and regular reviews of support. Our aim is to provide people with the skills necessary to maintain their accommodation and to lead independent lives.

Key responsibilities include:



Supporting people making the transition from homelessness into accommodation.

Supporting people with budgeting advice, arranging payment plans and signposting to relevant services e.g. Citizens Advice, Welfare Rights.

Providing support to help build routines and daily living skills.

Promoting confidence and self-esteem.

Support to attend appointments.

Working to individual support plans to achieve aims and goals.

Carrying out risk assessments.

Preparing reports and referrals to other services as appropriate.

Skills and knowledge:



Knowledge and experience of housing related support, homelessness, dependency issues, inter agency working and the benefits system would be an advantage.

Experience of working with adults with complex needs.

Confident in the use of Microsoft IT Packages.

SVQ 3 Social Service and Health Care or willingness to work towards this.

The post is subject to satisfactory references (one current or most recent employer and one character) and membership of the PVG (Adult) Scheme. Daily use of a roadworthy, appropriately insured car is required.

Successful applicants will be required to register with the Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of starting in this role and achieve registration within 6 months.
