Post Objectives: To support adults with a learning disability to have a constructive and enjoyable day within all our venues
At our Activity Hubs
1. To prepare prior to sessions commencing including arranging furniture, checking and addressing any health, safety, hygiene hazards (within and surrounding the premises). To arrange the regular equipment and any pre-planned activities. To clear up, clean and tidy away at the end of each session.
2. To supervise the welcome of learners to promote inclusion, to assist with any initial concerns/queries/support needs. To ensure all attendances are recorded and to take responsibility for the welfare of and safety of learners both inside and surrounding the premises. To ensure that all activities and all areas of the venue are adequately supervised.
3. To develop and run group activities such as cooking groups, discussion groups, dancing/exercise groups, etc. including encouraging participation.
4. To work with individuals and small groups to undertake activities of their choosing such as games and craft, including encouraging participation.
5. To support learners in groups to go out and about to local shops, visits, etc
4. To provide induction, orientation and ongoing support for students/volunteers as needed.
Within our Training Shop
1.Support shop learners to undertake shop tasks of their choosing, including suggesting tasks and motivating learners.
2. Serving and assisting members of the public and supporting our learners to do this including receiving donations appropriately
3.Sorting donations, moving stock around, helping with all aspects of work in a Charity Shop, involving learners in this whenever possible.
4.Setting up and closing down/cleaning the shop each day - including helping to carry stock and tables in and out of the shop.
Within House 6
1.Support learners to undertake all aspects of domestic life, including planning and setting up activities. For example, planning an ironing activity (sorting things to iron, setting up the area, supervising appropriately and ensuring the ironing risk assessment is followed and encouraging participation).
2.Supporting learners out and about to access shops and local facilities.
3. Preparing for each session and tidying/cleaning at the end of each day.
At all sites
6. To encourage participation in activities. To monitor take-up and ensure, where possible, that individual and group needs are met.
7. Following Risk Assessments and assisting with their development
8. To liaise with parents/carers/support staff/social workers etc. and provide feedback where appropriate.
9. To actively promote all the services that Alternatives deliver and organise taster sessions when appropriate.
10. To implement Alternatives Activity Centre's policies, procedures and practices.
11. To maintain confidentiality in all matters concerning learners, staff, students, trustees, volunteers & Alternatives Activity Centre.
12. To promote the reputation of Alternatives Activity Centre with other agencies & within the community.
13. To undertake training as required.
14. To produce reports, written and verbal, as required.
15. To support the Hubs and Shop Management Team in the effective running of the services including reporting any incidents.
16. To undertake any other duties that may be determined from time to time by the Hubs Manager, Training Shop Manager, Service Manager and/or Management Committee that are consistent with the overall purpose of the post.
