Watford Mencap is a charity providing high quality social care services and support to people with learning disabilities, and their families, in South West Hertfordshire.
We are currently looking for Support Workers to work in our residential care homes, supported living projects, and in our community activities teams. You will be supporting adults and children in one of our sites enabling people with learning disabilities to make the most of life, to enjoy choice and control over their own lives.
As a Support Worker, you will
plan and deliver support in a personalised way
problem solve
deal with challenges and be solution focused
support individuals to increase their skills and independence
activities include supporting individuals at meal times, to attend appointments, to go shopping, or to accompany on visits to new places
You are a good communicator, able to communicate with people who have different communication capabilities, creating an inclusive environment. You will also communicate and liaise with other team members both internally and externally, as well as their families.
You are a positive team member, contributing to the work of the team and be responsible for a range of tasks such as meal preparations, cleaning and providing personal care. You are able to work independently, and are flexible to support the team.
You keep people safe by working within the regulations to ensure where people need support with their choices, that the support is given to the highest standards

You will embrace diversity by working inclusively with people you support and your team members.
You don't need previous support experience, however you are motivated to provide quality support to people with learning disabilities and you are a good team player with good communication skills and IT skills to maintain accurate records.
You have strong inter-personal skills and form and maintain an effective working relationship.
We are looking for full time and part time staff. You work flexibly - be able to meet the needs of people through a flexible rota. This will involve working days, evenings & weekends as well as sleeping in and waking nights for some of our projects.
Salary: 12.21 - 12.74 per hour
