About Alliance Living Housing Association



Alliance Living Housing Association provides supported housing to individuals experiencing homelessness in Birmingham and Solihull. We offer safe, shared accommodation in our properties, where residents live in individual rooms. Our mission is to empower residents to rebuild their lives through personalized support, fostering independence and community. We bring residents together one to two times a week at our properties to engage in group activities and support sessions.

Job Purpose



As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centered support to residents in our shared housing properties. You will work closely with individuals to address their needs, promote independence, and help them achieve their personal goals. This role involves facilitating group sessions, providing one-on-one support, and collaborating with external agencies to ensure holistic care.

Key Responsibilities



- Resident Support:

- Build trusting relationships with residents to understand their needs and aspirations.

- Provide practical and emotional support to help residents develop life skills, such as budgeting, cooking, and personal care.

- Assist residents in accessing external services, including healthcare, mental health support, employment services, and education.

- Support residents in maintaining their tenancy and adhering to house rules.

- Group Activities:

- Plan and facilitate weekly group sessions (1-2 times per week) at shared properties to promote community, social inclusion, and skill-building.

- Encourage resident participation in activities that foster personal development and peer support.

- Case Management:

- Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with residents.

- Monitor and record residents' progress, maintaining accurate and confidential records.

- Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, escalating issues as needed.

- Collaboration:

- Work closely with colleagues, external agencies, and community partners to coordinate support for residents.

- Attend multi-agency meetings to advocate for residents' needs.

- Property Support:

- Conduct regular checks to ensure shared properties are safe, clean, and well-maintained.

- Support residents in maintaining their living spaces and resolving conflicts in shared accommodations.

- Administration:

- Complete reports, risk assessments, and other documentation in line with organizational policies.

- Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of support services.

Person Specification



- Essential:

- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle (due to travel between properties).

- Experience working with vulnerable adults, ideally in housing, homelessness, or social care settings.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with diverse individuals.

- Ability to work empathetically with people facing complex challenges, such as homelessness, mental health issues, or substance misuse.

- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk assessment.

- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed for group sessions or resident support.

- Basic IT skills for record-keeping and reporting.

- Desirable:

- Relevant qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent).

- Experience facilitating group activities or workshops.

- Understanding of the housing and homelessness sector in Birmingham and Solihull.
