We are a well-established and growing groundworks and surfacing contractor working with local authorities and high-profile commercial clients across the Southeast. Due to an increasing workload, we are looking for an experienced Surfacing & Civils Estimator / Quantity Surveyor who wants more responsibility, autonomy, and visibility than typically offered in larger organisations.
This role is ideal for someone currently working in a structured commercial team who feels ready to take ownership of tenders, work closer to decision-makers, and play a real part in winning and delivering work.
The Role
Reporting directly to senior management, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders for surfacing and associated civils works. You will be trusted to manage your own workload and contribute commercially from pre-tender stage through to handover.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing detailed estimates for asphalt surfacing and groundworks
Reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documents to produce compliant tenders
Attending site visits and pre-tender assessments
Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to build accurate pricing
Identifying value engineering opportunities and commercial risks
Supporting tender clarifications, negotiations, and pre-contract handovers
Maintaining estimating records, pricing databases, and market awareness
What We're Looking For
5+ years' experience
in surfacing, highways, civil engineering estimating / QS roles
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
Experience tendering for local authority or commercial works
Comfortable working independently and managing multiple tenders
Strong Excel skills and experience with market estimating software
Full UK driving licence
