We are now seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Sustainability Officer to lead and develop our sustainability and social value strategies.

Role Overview

The Sustainability Officer will be responsible for driving WMBS's sustainability initiatives, including carbon reporting, environmental performance, and social value impact. You will oversee the measurement and reporting of our Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, coordinate our social value activities, and champion engagement with clients and suppliers on Net Zero Carbon (NZC) goals. Responsibilities

Sustainability & Carbon Reporting:

Record, monitor, and report Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions in line with industry best practices and relevant standards. Develop and maintain internal carbon accounting tools and procedures. Analyse embodied carbon in projects and help integrate low-carbon strategies into project planning and delivery. Support the delivery of Net Zero Carbon targets and provide guidance to internal teams on carbon reduction measures.
Social Value:

Lead WMBS's social value strategy, ensuring the delivery and reporting of key social value KPIs. Organise and attend social value events (e.g., community engagement, volunteering, apprenticeships) to boost our social impact and improve our social value score. Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to embed social value into all aspects of the business.
Stakeholder Engagement:

Arrange and attend Net Zero Carbon events and forums with clients and suppliers. Act as the internal point of contact for all sustainability and social value-related queries. Work collaboratively across departments to raise awareness and embed a sustainability-focused culture at WMBS.
Compliance & Innovation:

Keep up to date with legislation, industry guidance, and trends related to sustainability in the built environment. Identify and champion opportunities for sustainability innovation across projects and operations. Contribute to prequalification and tender submissions by providing sustainability and carbon-related information.

Person Specification

Essential:

Passionate about sustainability, environmental impact, and social value. Understanding of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and carbon measurement methodologies. Strong organisational and project management skills. Confident communicator, able to engage with a range of stakeholders including clients, suppliers, and community groups. Proactive, enthusiastic, and solution-focused mindset.
Desirable:

Degree or relevant qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field Familiarity with embodied carbon analysis tools (e.g., OneClick LCA, EC3). Experience in delivering or managing social value initiatives. Knowledge of industry frameworks such as PAS 2080, ISO 14064, or the Social Value Portal. Experience in carbon accounting or environmental reporting, ideally in the construction or building services sector.

Pay: 30,000.00-35,000.00 per year
