Apprentice Level & Course: Network Engineer Apprenticeship (Level 4) Wiltshire College. Course completed over 24 months starting in November / December 2023. All learning is completed at Warminster / remotely, no requirement to attend Wiltshire College. Full course details are available here:

Duration: Permanent role.

Location: Warminster (Onsite Full Time \xe2\x80\x93 studying may be possible remotely).

Travel: Occasional travel to Harlow, Melsonby and other UK-wide locations per business requirements. Opportunity for travel abroad to support military exercises per business requirement.

Summary of role:

Raytheon UK is looking for two enthusiastic individuals with the desire to learn to join our longstanding Command and Staff Trainer (CAST) Programme which sites within an exciting and growing area of our Training Transformation business.

As an Apprentice Systems Engineer, you will join a small team based in Warminster that sits within a larger team spread across the UK and abroad. You will work fulltime from the office with numerous opportunities to visit other UK and International sites to support the team and our military customers.

This is a challenging and highly rewarding role that will launch a career in engineering. We are a close-knit team, with a wide variety of different skills meaning you will be fully supported to obtain a Level 4 Network Engineer qualification and entry onto the register of IT technicians over the 24 months apprenticeship. This course requires 20% of the working week to be allocated for apprenticeship study/tasks for the duration of the Apprenticeship Programme. The course will require independent study including online learning, reading and assessments.

The Apprentice Role:

During the apprenticeship the successful candidates will:

  • Develop knowledge, understanding and skills related to the principles and practices of systems engineering
  • Develop communication, interpersonal skills and time management
  • Use understanding and analysis to solve problems
  • Gain an understanding of networks, IT systems, and Windows Server relevant to the role
The successful apprentices will report into the Warminster Site Manager with daily supervision provided from all members of our Warminster Engineering Team and will be involved in a wide range of activities supporting the programme and wider business, including:
  • Configuration and/or integration of individual systems to match military training requirements
  • Conduct appropriate system training to ensure the military Users are competent to conduct their exercises
  • Provide coverage, when required, to support programme activities at relevant Raytheon UK and Ministry of Defence sites both in the UK and abroad
  • Support the day to day and IT operations activities at the Warminster site
  • Carry out Engineering, Operational and Administrative duties
  • Liaise with the military customer and build scenarios to fit their requirements
  • Establish consistent and measurable processes for the support & administration activity
  • Comply with configuration and control procedures
  • Attend further training when required
  • Comply with laid down company procedures
Throughout the apprenticeship the successful candidates will have responsibility for their own work which will align to the requirements of the course. In addition, the apprentices will support the wider members of the team on more complex requirements. The apprentices will be part of a network of apprentices and graduates across the business with access to training, networking opportunities and business exposure.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential
  • Minimum GCSEs Grades A*-C/ 9-4 (or Level 2 certificates) or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Applicants should be able to successfully achieve UK MoD SC security clearance.
  • When required, be willing to work at night and do shift work
  • When required, be willing to work from different Raytheon & MoD Sites nationally and internationally
  • IT skills such as MS Word, Email, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Desirable:
  • Passport holder and hold a driving license for travel
  • GCSE, A Level or BTEC in a STEM related subject
  • Interest in defence and aerospace industry and knowledge of battlefield terminology and doctrine
  • Knowledge of Windows OS, LAN Technology, and general IT systems
  • Presentation & Training skills
  • Physically fit as lifting is part of the role
  • Flexible and positive attitude and able to work unsupervised
  • Comfortable with challenges
  • Able to perform effectively in a multi-functional team
  • Experience of problem solving and dispute resolution
