About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Systems Manager to lead renewable energy and associated operations within a dynamic group of companies based in the scenic West Highlands of Scotland. The successful candidate will oversee a skilled team of five and manage the delivery of sustainable zero waste and closed loop solutions across extensive estate operations.
This is a hands-on, strategic, and operational leadership role, overseeing all aspects of the estate's biomass fuel production, hydroelectric systems, wind energy, wood gasification, and bi-product integration from a local distillery. The Renewables Systems Manager will also be responsible for compliance, health and safety, reporting, and project management of new integrated initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operations
Lead, coordinate, and support an experienced team of five involved in biomass fuel production and energy systems management.
Foster a collaborative working environment across estate and business functions.
Biomass Energy Management
Oversee production of wood fuel from the estate's own forestry.
Manage log processing into woodchip for gasification and biomass boiler systems.
Ensure fuel delivery to estate buildings, a local distillery, and other external clients.
Organise boiler maintenance, repairs, and ensure reliable system performance.
Maintain accurate records and submit data for RHI compliance to OFGEM.
Gasification & Energy Systems
Operate and maintain wood gasifiers, gas engines, and associated systems.
Manage critical spares and ensure data is submitted in a timely manner.
Commit to developing expertise in emerging technologies in this area.
Hydropower & Wind Turbine Oversight
Manage operation, repair, and maintenance of two hydroelectric plants.
Liaise with external stakeholders, manufacturers, and grid operators to ensure effective wind turbine performance and compliance.
Distillery By-product Management
Coordinate the use of distillery by-products in the energy and agricultural cycle.
Integrate with estate cattle farm feeding schedules and renewable systems.
Compliance & Reporting
Record and report heat/energy data for internal use and OFGEM compliance.
Maintain records for audits, certifications, and third-party reviews.
Ensure alignment with SEPA and environmental regulations.
Project Management
Lead new projects focused on renewable energy generation and sustainability.
Identify opportunities for improving efficiency and implementing novel solutions.
Health & Safety
Ensure full compliance with H&S legislation across all activities.
Maintain a safe working environment and uphold best practices.

Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Full UK Driving Licence (vehicle provided)
Proven experience managing complex systems and multi-technology operations
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in using spreadsheets and word processing software
Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
Excellent record-keeping and communication skills
Experience in compiling budgets and managing operations within set budget constraints
Desirable:
Experience in forestry, biomass, hydropower, or other renewable technologies
Understanding of OFGEM and RHI compliance
Knowledge of environmental standards and regulatory liaison (e.g., SEPA)
Background in rural estate or agricultural settings
