Are you a calm, proactive and emotionally intelligent
Teaching Assistant
ready to support a bright pupil with autism in Year Five? We are looking for a
Teaching Assistant
to join a high performing mainstream primary school in NW7 3BG, Barnet. This full time, term time
Teaching Assistant
opportunity starts in September and continues for the academic year to support a boy who thrives with calm and structured guidance.
About the Role
This
Teaching Assistant
position is a one to one support role working closely with a bright and capable Year Five pupil who has autism. The child is verbal, enjoys learning and responds best to adults who are calm, patient and confident without being overbearing. While his behaviour is not challenging, he does become easily distracted and requires gentle and consistent guidance to stay focused and on task.
You will work alongside the class teacher and the wider inclusion team to create structure, manage transitions and subtly adapt classroom activities so he can participate fully. The day to day will involve a blend of classroom presence and some breakout time in quieter areas. There is no behaviour management drama, just a need for emotional intelligence and a calm presence.
This is not about controlling behaviour but about building trust and helping a child access the curriculum confidently, without pressure. No heavy paperwork, no unrealistic expectations, just purposeful and pupil centred support where small wins really matter.
