Staff at Banbury College work with students who are enrolled on a variety of academic courses and are studying at all levels, from entry qualifications to Level 3, including T levels. Pathways available for students include animal management, e-sports, performing arts, public services, catering, health and social care and hair and beauty.

There are fantastic working spaces, including specialist workshops and salons for students. Students come to an FE College like Banbury because they want to learn in a more practical way - they want to be active learners with real life applications and a clear focus on developing skills for the workplace or higher education.

About the role

As a teaching assistant at Activate Learning, you will have a passion for working with young people or adults with a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities and/or behavioural needs, including mental health and wellbeing needs. You will be an individual who has the resilience and patience to develop independence in learners and to encourage them to take more responsibility for their own learning. You will have good communication skills and a cooperative working style. You will be working as part of a team.

Teaching Assistants work with students in the classrooms and workshops, alongside the teacher. This can be on a 1:1 or small group basis. The assistant may help the student to develop life skills, independence, and employability skills. Some students may require personal and/or medical care. If this is required for the student/s you would be working with, training would be provided.

What do you need to be a successful Teaching Assistant at Activate Learning?

As a teaching assistant you will:

  • Creative and innovative approach to motivating learners and delivering support.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with a range of people.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and e-literacy skills, including using Office 365 and various IT packages, e.g., Word, Excel.
You may have:
  • experience of working in an FE or other learning environments.
  • experience of industry and the working world.
  • experience of working with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • a Level 3 Support Assistant qualification or equivalent, but this is not essential.
