Role Summary
This Technical Architect will support the Client Journey, with an initial focus on Onboarding, consisting of the end-to-end experience for the client. The desired experience of the Client Journey encompasses the processes that are performed, as well as a thorough connection to the systems that support the work. There is a need for a Technical Architect to help develop technology architecture blueprints for the Architecture Review Board (ARB).
This role sits within the Enterprise Architecture function of T Rowe Price but will be 100% aligned and dedicated to the Client Journey deliverable. It is the responsibility of the Technical Architect to support the definition of business requirements defining the target state for the Client Journey and then leading the development of the target state architecture (alongside delivery channel architects and developers) to meet this target state. This will include providing technical leadership, consultancy and facilitation of the design process - and the delivery of the socialized and agreed architecture to the delivery teams, after approval through the ARB.
Responsibilities
The Technical Architect will demonstrate competencies across three key dimensions:
Deliver Future-State Solution ArchitectureReports to the Head of Enterprise Architecture - Applications
Works with all members of the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure that all technical decisions made as part of the definition of the Client Journey future state are aligned to the strategic vision of TRP
Works with members of the Client Journey team to ensure understanding of the business requirements, both target state and journey to that target state (business priorities and drivers)
Works with members of the Client Journey delivery team (architects and developers) to ensure proposed architecture is understood, practical and supported by those who will be responsible for the delivery to production. This includes coaching and mentoring of development teams through the initial design process and into the beginning of the development process
Drives digital innovation by leveraging innovative technologies and approaches to renovate, extend and transform the existing core technology base and IT estate.
Analyzes and Evaluates TechnologyUnderstands the strategic, EA driven technical goals and how to implement them in the client journey program
Guides project deliverables to ensure project meets the architectural and business requirements whilst reducing technical debt and increasing alignment to architectural vision
Acts as a consultant and advisor to the project team, opining on how the project direction can be best aligned to current and trending technology initiatives.
Ensures that the project team is aligned to the EA principles and architectural governance process.
Leads and Collaborates to Deliver Business OutcomesUnderstands the business drivers and requirements and ensures the target architecture is aligned to those goals
Consults extensively and frequently with all involved parties to ensure that alignment is maintained throughout the architecture development phase
Works closely with the product managers, product owners and EA peers (e.g., enterprise, business, information, security, and solutions architects) to enable infrastructure agility, scalability, and resilience to support required product needs throughout product life cycles.
Documents necessary for enterprise technology architecture design and analysis work
Qualifications
Required:Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND 5+ years of total relevant work experience
Minimum 5+ years of design and implementation experience in IT, with a deep knowledge in a minimum of two of the following (or similar) technical disciplines: infrastructure and network design, application development, application programming interfaces (APIs), middleware, servers and storage, database management and operations, clustering technologies, virtualization, cloud technologies and Active Directory and protocols
Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments
Understanding of product management, agile principles and development methodologies and capability to support agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact, and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt.
Excellent people skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation
Strong leadership skills
Good understanding of design principles and common design patterns
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills in a technical context.
Knowledge of IT standards and controls
Understanding of system development life cycle methodologies (e.g., waterfall, spiral, agile software development, rapid prototyping, incremental, synchronize and stabilize, and DevOps)
Relevant vendor or industry certifications
Preferred:Organizationally savvy, with understanding of the political climate of a global company and how to navigate obstacles and politics.
Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations and how they relate to achieving targeted business outcomes.
Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to enable future-state business capabilities that, in turn, drive targeted business outcomes.
Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of existing, new, and emerging technologies that enable and drive new business designs and models.
Work Flexibility
This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to three days per week from home.
