MSA Foams is a bespoke manufacturer of foam components specialising in high-quality, custom solutions for diverse industrial and commercial packaging.

The Role will involve working effectively as part of a, dynamic design team to develop new products and design using both 3D Solidworks and 2D CADCAM systems. There is also a requirement for creating CNC programs in a timely and efficient manner, with the aim of designing to minimising material costs and maximising production efficiency.

Designing will require varied methods, depending on the customer type, incorporating things like aesthetics, function, high qty's, environments, logistics, cost and manufacture method.

Design will be geared to use multiple production machines including: 5 Axis Waterjet, Laser engrave/cutter, both 3 Axis and 5 Axis multitool CNC routers, Beam Press and fabricated items.

With qualified Military Packager Accreditation Scheme (MPAS) Designers, MSA has access to more opportunities within the UK MoD and aerospace sectors. This has led to involvement in complex projects under the UK DEF-STAN 81-041 and other military standards, revealing ongoing demand for a technical engineering role in design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Liaise with customers, Engineers, and the sales team to understand and collate the specifications required to tender for a project. Assist sales with estimating and providing guidance from a technical standpoint. Produce new designs to a high standard, including offering advice and problem-solving. R&D into materials, fixings, hardware, and technical data associated. Creating production drawings/new designs using AlphaCAM (CADCAM) and Solidworks. Create tool paths and CNC programs in line with job sheets, company standards and the programming schedule. Liaise with the production team to ensure the best production methods are employed. Being involved in any new processes or equipment needed, to ensure the project can be produced. Validate and verify first-offs for dimensional, physical, and to the standards required. Understand and adhere to the company's quality system, ISO9001 and procedures. Liaising with the QA & Design Manager to cover documentation or standards needed for new projects. Work with suppliers and technical advisers to gain the required design criteria & knowledge. Be able to work with multiple foam and plastic materials, including occasional metalwork, different fixings and fabrication methods where possible. Be required to support the sales team with customer visits to take component data, normally using our inhouse portable 3D scanner.

REQUIREMENTS



The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 - 5 years' experience in a similar role within engineering or packaging industries; however, a strong technical background and possible experience in fabricated metalwork/assemblies would be an advantage.

All candidates must have a working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD, preferably using Solidworks and/or AlphaCAM. Proficient in using standard office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

CADCAM experience is also a strong advantage.
