Technical Manager - DSC Nutrition Overview

DSC Nutrition is a fast-growing provider of high-quality nutritional products, specialising in powders, tablets and capsules, packaged in a variety of ways to suit the customers' needs. We are seeking a highly capable Technical Manager to lead our technical, quality, and compliance functions. This role ensures our products meet the highest standards of safety, legality, and innovation while supporting operational excellence across the business.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & Compliance

Oversee all technical operations, ensuring full compliance with UK and EU food safety legislation, including HACCP, GMP, and relevant FSA/EFSA guidelines.

Maintain and continuously improve the site's Quality Management System (QMS).

Lead internal and external audits (BRCGS, customer audits, regulatory inspections).

Ensure all product specifications, formulations, and technical documentation are accurate and up to date.

Manage supplier approval processes, raw material risk assessments, and supplier performance monitoring.

Product Development & Innovation

Support formulation development, ingredient selection, and technical feasibility assessments.

Provide technical guidance on new product launches, including stability, shelf-life, labelling, and claims validation.

Evaluate emerging ingredients, technologies, and regulatory changes.

Quality Assurance & Food Safety

Lead the QA team to ensure robust testing, sampling, and verification processes.

Own the site HACCP plan, allergen management, traceability, and incident response procedures.

Investigate non-conformance, customer complaints, and quality issues, implementing CAPA.

Ensure production teams are trained and aligned with food safety and quality standards.

Customer Complaints Management

Oversee the full customer complaint handling process, ensuring timely investigation, root-cause analysis, and resolution.

Maintain accurate complaint logs, trend analysis, and KPI reporting to identify recurring issues and drive continuous improvement.

Collaborate with Production, Quality, Procurement, and NPD teams to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Communicate professionally with customers, providing clear technical explanations and updates where required.

Ensure complaint procedures comply with regulatory standards and align with DSC Nutrition's quality expectations.

Lead regular reviews of complaint data to support strategic decision-making and product quality enhancements

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Operations, Production, Procurement, and Commercial teams.

Support customer-facing teams with technical queries and documentation.

Represent DSC Nutrition in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or related discipline.

Proven experience in a technical or quality leadership role within food, supplements, or FMCG manufacturing.

Strong understanding of UK/EU food regulations and industry standards.

Experience managing audits and maintaining certification schemes (e.g., BRCGS).

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable

Experience in sports nutrition, powdered blends, or supplement manufacturing.

Knowledge of formulation development and functional ingredient interactions.

HACCP Level 3/4, Lead Auditor, or similar qualifications.

Experience with ERP/QMS systems.
