Job Description

ACS International School Cobham, is seeking an experienced Theatre Technician to work as part of the Performing Arts Department team, providing practical and technical expertise in support of functions, performances and events. This role starts in August 2025 and is for term time only + 4 additional weeks.



Main Responsibilities:



Theatrical:



Responsible for the operation, maintenance (including PAT testing), repair, inventory and setup of the school's lighting, sound (including live sound mixing) and IT Presentation equipment (some heavy lifting required). Responsible for arranging and supervising the annual servicing of theatre equipment (eg. fly tower, tension wire grid, seating systems). Coordinate radio microphone frequencies & licenses throughout the school. Create and manage inventory and provide information to order replacement parts and outside repairs. Update regularly the PAC Operating documentation. Assist the Performing Arts teachers and help train and work closely with students interested in technical theatre (within the curricular & co-curricular programmes). Ability to train and supervise faculty and staff on the use of public address systems and AV control systems, to facilitate setup, operation and take down of the sound and lighting equipment for performances, presentations and assemblies. Collaborate with HoS office, PA and support team to schedule, facilitate and manage the setup and take downs of events. Creatively assist directors of programmes with lighting, sound and IT designs and setups for a variety of presentations. Appropriately setup presentation equipment such as computers, projectors and screens for ACS Cobham school events - assemblies, student events, presentations - to meet the needs of the users. Ensure the safety of inexperienced personnel who are using potentially dangerous equipment and prepare the relevant H&S Risk Assessment documentation for the Theatre operations and department events. Proactive participation in all regular planning meetings e.g Performing Arts meetings. Manage a budget within set limits and update equipment when necessary to meet needs of programme. Complete all relevant administration accurately to agreed timescales. Any other reasonable requests as required to fulfil the needs of the organisation.

Live Productions/ Events:



Setup sound and lighting (including programming where appropriate) for school assemblies, dances, concerts and other events. Manage wireless stage mics and integrate with various multimedia sources including video and computer presentations. Manage flying operations for productions, including designing safe rigging systems for scenic elements. Advise on, and collaborate with faculty to facilitate staging, sound and lighting design for events, and arrange the hire, installation and/or building of set materials. Stage manages technical rehearsals for productions.

Music Equipment:



Compile and manage an inventory of classroom music equipment (amps, mikes, mike stands, cables, leads). Arrange for maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment. Order additional equipment.

Multimedia Support



Facilitate the setup and operation of various multimedia equipment including presentation laptops, projectors and audio equipment. Support with the production and editing of video and sound recordings of and for PA department events, assessments and exams where necessary Maintain the PA Dept Vimeo account, including preparation and uploading of content.

Supervision:



Supervise visiting contractors for school events and maintenance (eg. videographers, photographers & contract technicians/stagehands & sound engineers, service engineers). Assist with the hire of contracted technical support staff where necessary. Liaise with contractors to manage day to day repairs, annual servicing and technical support, agreeing rates and overseeing job completion. Supervise student technical crews for productions and events.

Working schedule:

Non term time (42 weeks of term time per year, plus 4 non term time weeks, totalling 46 weeks per year). Daily hours to be confirmed.
