Location: Guards Museum, London SW1 (on-site)


Fee: 75 to 200, depending on assignment type


Contract type: Freelance. You must be self-employed with a UTR number


Circumstances: There is an element of working outside in all seasons


Availability: Tours most frequently take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with more assignments available at peak times (spring, summer, end November to early January). There may also be additional tours on a Sunday

Role Summary:




The Guards Museum, London, is seeking experienced tour hosts to lead our range of exclusive tours and experiences. In this role you will have the opportunity to inspire visitors and clients with the story of the Guards and our museum, conducting tours and engaging with a diverse audience, including tourists, families and corporate groups.


The ideal candidates will thrive in a customer-facing role, enjoy meeting new people and bring an informative, engaging, enthusiastic and consistent approach to delivering hosted tours. You will be motivated by providing an excellent level of customer service and have a passion for storytelling.


Our tours encompass exclusive access 'Guard Mount' tours (the first part of the Changing of the Guard ceremony), Museum highlights tours, and bespoke experiences.


We will also have occasional assignments available for keynote speeches at events. Tours range in length from 60 to 90 minutes.

Responsibilities

:



Provide a warm welcome to arriving groups, ensuring they understand the location and nature of the experience to be provided Maintain control of groups, ensuring that everyone stays together and follows instructions Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the Museum and the Guards, to deliver engaging and informative tours to visitors (including children), private groups and clients As part of the bespoke tour offer, encourage guests to make the most of the museum experience by facilitating the Guards uniform try-on opportunity Deliver a variety of tours, including bespoke experiences and Museum highlights tours Share tour feedback to inform improvements to tour delivery for the team Provide excellent customer service, ensuring guests have a memorable experience Address any issues or concerns that may arise during the tour

Person Specification:



Essential



Experience delivering tours or guided activities Excellent communication skills: able to clearly convey information in an engaging way A passion for working with the public, with the confidence to interact with a diverse audience Interpersonal skills: able to build rapport and 'read' a group to ensure a tour is pitched correctly to meet expectations Ability to adjust to changing circumstances or unexpected events Ability to adhere to a specific itinerary and share accurate, factually correct information Excellent time management skills: punctual and able to deliver a tour to schedule An interest in British history

An interest in military history A knowledge of London's heritage, history and ceremony

The Guards Museum commemorates nearly 400 years of history of the five regiments of Foot Guards, who protect the Sovereign and the royal palaces. Founded to teach new recruits their Regimental heritage, it now enables a diverse audience to discover the soldiers' stories: a life of combat, peace-keeping and ceremonial duty.


We strive to educate, inspire and connect visitors to the rich traditions of the Guards: fostering an understanding and appreciation of their pivotal role in our history, present and future. The Guards Museum is primarily self-funding, relying on income from visitors, events and private tours.
