Due to expansion, we are recruiting a

Trade Counter Team Member

to join our team and be a key point of contact for our trade customers. You'll support plumbers, heating engineers, and contractors by providing expert product advice, processing orders efficiently, and ensuring every customer receives excellent service.

Key Accountabilities

Welcome and serve trade customer at the counter, understanding their requirements and offering knowledgeable product recommendations. Process quotations, sales orders, and returns accurately using the company's systems. Advise customers on plumbing and heating products, stock availability, specifications, and alternatives. Maintain excellent product knowledge of plumbing, heating, and related materials. Manage stock levels on the shop floor, ensuring shelves are well-presented and properly labelled. Support warehouse duties when required, including picking orders and checking deliveries. Achieve individual and branch sales targets through effective customer engagement and upselling relevant products. Build strong customer relationships to drive repeat business and meet sales targets. Handle customer queries, resolve issues promptly, and escalate complex matters when needed. Ensure compliance with health & safety standards across the trade counter and store areas.

Key Competencies

Strong customer service and communication skills. Solid understanding of plumbing & heating products or willingness to learn quickly. Confident in sales and upselling relevant products and accessories. Excellent attention to detail in order processing and stock management. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced trade counter environment. Good problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach. Reliable team player who works well with warehouse, sales, and delivery colleagues. Basic computer literacy (EPOS systems, MS Office).

Qualifications/Experience

Previous experience in a plumbing & heating merchant, builders' merchant, or trade counter environment is highly desirable. General knowledge of plumbing/heating systems, fittings, valves, boilers, and related products (preferred). Full UK driving licence is an advantage. GCSEs or equivalent; additional product or industry training is a bonus.
