Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented
Trainee Accountant
to join our growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to develop a career in legal accounting. You will support the finance department with day-to-day bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records using legal accounting software (e.g., LEAP/Xero).
Prepare client and office account reconciliations in compliance with
SRA Accounts Rules
.
Process supplier invoices, employee expenses, and petty cash transactions.
Assist with
bank reconciliations
, journals, and ledger entries.
Support the monthly billing process and assist fee earners with billing queries.
Help monitor incoming and outgoing payments, ensuring proper authorisation.
Assist in the preparation of management accounts, VAT returns, and year-end financial reports.
Support audits and liaise with external accountants where required.
Help ensure the firm's financial activities comply with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
Carry out administrative duties related to financial recordkeeping.
Requirements
Essential:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or currently pursuing AAT/ACCA qualifications).
Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Desirable:
Experience in a legal or professional services environment.
Familiarity with SRA Accounts Rules or legal cashiering.
Experience using accounting or case management software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, LEAP).
