Dental Nurse qualification

Key Responsibilities:
As a Trainee Dental Nurse (Apprentice Role):
Assist experienced clinicians with a range of NHS dental procedures
Learn to prepare dental surgery rooms, instruments, and materials in line with NHS infection control protocols (HTM 01-05)
Help with the decontamination of dental instruments following NHS guidelines
Observe and support the team in recording accurate and confidential patient records
Provide chairside support to dentists
Ensure patient comfort and safety during treatments
Maintain stock levels in surgery
Reception / Administrative Duties:
Be the first point of contact for patients, providing a friendly and professional welcome
Book, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments via phone, email, and in person
Handle NHS paperwork, treatment plans, and patient recalls efficiently
Answer phone calls, take messages, and manage patient queries
Take payments and process receipts, following NHS charge band guidelines
Help maintain a clean, organised reception area and waiting room
Communicate effectively with clinicians and other staff members to ensure smooth patient flow
Requirements:
A genuine interest in pursuing a career in dental nursing and a willingness to learn
GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent (required for apprenticeship entry)
Candidates will be required to have a Hepatitis B vaccination provided by the practice to work in a clinical environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A positive, professional attitude with a focus on patient care
Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
No previous dental experience is required, but a passion for learning is essential
Willingness to complete a formal apprenticeship qualification (NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing)
This role may require the candidate to attend college sessions in order to complete the qualification.
