Job Description

We are looking for ideal candidates to join our existing team of Dispensary Assistants at Wansbeck General Hospital (WGH) The successful candidate will be undertaking activities at ward level but also within the pharmacy department, who contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supple and dispensing medication.



The post will be based at Wansbeck General Hospital but the post holder may be required to work at other sites within the Trust. Weekend cover will be based at North Tyneside General Hospital to support the 7 day clinical service to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH).



An NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services is desirable, however, if not held then you will be expected to achieve this within 12 months. Previous experience in a similar post would be desirable but it is not essential.

To contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive and modern ward pharmacy service. Undertaking activities predominantly within the pharmacy department which contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supply, drug administration, and dispensing medication.



We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. To communicate routine information with other healthcare staff to ensure that a safe and effective system of supply of medicines is maintained to patients.



To communicate routine information with patients/ carers concerning their medicines which may include to patients with communication difficulties.
