Part of the Coram group, Coram Children's Legal Centre (CCLC) is the UK's specialist centre for children's rights in education, immigration, community care and family law, and provides significant international legal systems consultancy. The centre is located on the Coram Campus in central London with a base in Colchester. We champion access to justice through information and advice, legal practice and representation, policy and strategic litigation. Our Legal Practice Unit (LPU) provides advice and representation primarily under legal aid contract. Our Policy and Practice Change team promotes practice change through training and capacity building to professionals and secures systems change through research, policy and advocacy. We use our broad and significant experience and expertise to promote and protect the rights of children in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

About the role

At CCLC we are committed to training and supporting the development of the next generation of social justice legal aid lawyers. CCLC is therefore delighted to have received funding from the Justice First Fellowship to host a two-year trainee solicitor position beginning in April 2026.



The role is open to those on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE) route to qualification. In particular, the eligibility requirements are that candidates have completed and passed the LPC by 14 March 2026 or have an undergraduate degree and have completed and passed SQE Part 1 by 14 March 2026.



The successful candidate will be supported by our highly experienced supervising solicitors and will have the opportunity to gain experience across two or three areas of our practice: immigration and asylum, family, education and community care law. Working under supervision, the trainee will receive excellent training and supervision in order to deliver high quality legal casework and advice to clients.



The trainee will also complete a project aimed at broadening skill sets beyond the law to find new ways to support communities and increase the impact of our work. The legal centre is situated within the wider Coram group of charities all concerned with the welfare of children. The trainee will therefore have an opportunity to gain broader experience and insight into how casework evidence and experience is used to inform policy work that creates change at a systemic level.



Lastly the trainee will benefit from a peer support network as part of the cohort of fellows working across different host organisations, including through an annual residential.
