JOB TITLE: Training Mentor
LOCATION: Brighton
SALARY: 26,137 is the FTE. This role is Term Time Only: 39 weeks per year.
This role will be based in Brighton. Depending on their roles, our staff can be required to work on a range of different sites, including our main training centre, enrichment site, training cafes and employer's premises.
JOB SUMMARY
Your role is to mentor and support our candidates with a mixture of regularly scheduled sessions, along with cover in response to operational needs. You will also be asked to support candidates working in our training cafes.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Mentoring
Oversee and carry out training sessions with candidates, helping them gain independence and confidence across all areas of our cafe curriculum, including barista, till, customer service, food preparation and baking.
Support individuals and small groups in classroom, training, day service, coffee roastery and enrichment environments according to plans devised by the teaching and training team and in line with the outcomes devised for each candidate.
Use the 'Systematic Instruction' training method to train all candidates working in Cafe Domenica and the workplace. If required, training will be provided on Systematic Instruction.
Responsible for individual candidate target setting, this is overseen by teaching staff.
Setting targets against a candidate's Education, Health and Care Plans, contribute to and attend candidate annual reviews.
Support candidates in external work experience placements, and, where necessary cover for job coaches at supported internship placements.
Support independent travel and pedestrian training to candidates.
Deliver, support and record bespoke interventions such as those devised by the Speech and Language and occupational therapists.
Monitor and evaluate candidates' progress across sites.
Provide pastoral support in line with plans and guidance written by the team at Team Domenica.
Where appropriate and with the support of the Pastoral Lead contribute to individual risk assessments and positive behaviour support plans.
Under direction of appropriate colleagues, provide mentoring to individual candidates so enable them to become independent, to learn to evaluate their own progress and development, and to set appropriate targets.
Contribute to monitoring and evaluating candidate progress with teaching staff.
Training cafes
Protect the health, safety and well-being of candidates, staff and customers and show an understanding of current legal requirements, especially with regards to food hygiene.
To supervise and support candidates to prepare and service food in a safe and hygienic manner
To support and train candidates to develop their skills to make coffee and other hot drinks
To support candidates in ensuring cafes are clean, well-stocked and well presented at all times, by supporting candidates to follow given schedules, plans and procedures
To ensure all financial transactions, including those carried out by candidates under supervision, are carried out in line with guidance, policy and training
There may be occasions when your role with candidates is not required and, in this instance, you may be redeployed in other areas of the charity and undertake other operational tasks as directed by the cafe manager.

EXPERIENCE
Working knowledge of MS Office.
Safeguarding awareness.
Knowledge and experience in working with young people with ASC, SLD and MLD. (Desirable)
Experience in supporting young people in the workplace. (Desirable)
Knowledge and experience in catering and hospitality. (Desirable)
QUALIFICATIONS
Maths and English GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent)
Food and Hygiene Level 2 Certificate (Training will be provided)
