Introduction
Do you have the empathy, patience, and creativity to meet young people exactly where they are - sometimes quite literally?
At New Meaning Training (NMT), we believe education should start with the learner's needs, not the timetable. Some of our students are not yet ready to join even a small group of peers. They may face significant barriers including anxiety, autism, trauma, or other social-emotional challenges. That's why our Transition Support Tutor pathway begins in the place they feel safest - often at home - and progresses at a pace that suits them.
We're looking for a compassionate, flexible professional who understands that transition isn't linear. As a Transition Support Tutor, you'll help young people build confidence, routine, and the life skills they need to re-engage with learning. You might start the year spending most of your time on the road, visiting learners at home or in the community. As trust and engagement grow, you'll support their move into one of our Buckinghamshire centres, small group settings, and potentially into mainstream classes or employment.
You'll be delivering Proactive Lifeskills (PALS), SEMH support, and--when the learner is ready--Functional Skills in Maths and English. For some, this will lead to a full qualification pathway; for others, a direct route to the workplace. What matters most is your ability to build relationships, adapt your approach, and walk beside each learner on their unique journey.
If you have the relational skills and resilience to help young people take their first steps toward education, we'd love to hear from you.
You will have
A full UK driving licence and business-insured vehicle (essential)
Experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach
Confidence to work independently and flexibly across different settings
A passion for enabling learners to build confidence and independence
Commitment to ongoing CPD and professional development

Safeguarding & Wellbeing Training
Advanced Safeguarding Children (Level 2)
PREVENT Duty
Mental Health Awareness
Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with tutors and support staff on schemes of work and learning plans
Participate in learner onboarding, induction, and review processes
Develop and adapt learning resources for SEND and SEMH learners

About Us
New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 15-25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, around 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire will join one of our programmes. Many of these students are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.
Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as "Toolshed." Ten years on, NMT continues to grow, with new centres opening in September 2025 in Nuneaton and Milton Keynes.
We have a range of programmes at New Meaning Training Bucks & Herts: Construction Multiskills, Motor Mechanics, Sports, Hair & Beauty, Computing, Childcare, Catering and Boost Workskills. Not all programmes are available at every location, but all incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials to support our well-rounded approach. We also provide a 'Transition Support' programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.?
NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma-Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
