Overview



The Transport & Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transport operations while ensuring full compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements. This role ensures that all logistics, fleet management, and workforce practices operate efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities



Transport Operations



Oversee daily transport and logistics planning to ensure efficient and timely delivery of services. Manage fleet scheduling, driver allocation, and route optimisation. Monitor vehicle utilisation, fuel consumption, and overall operational performance. Ensure all fleet assets are maintained, serviced, and compliant with legal and manufacturer standards. Handle transport-related incidents, investigations, and insurance processes. Develop and implement transport policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.

Health & Safety Management



Lead the company's health and safety programme across all operations. Conduct regular risk assessments, site inspections, and safety audits. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation Maintain and update health & safety manuals, staff contracts. Deliver or arrange safety training, inductions, toolbox talks, and competency assessments. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, producing reports and implementing corrective actions. Act as the primary point of contact for external regulators, auditors, and stakeholders.

Leadership & Management



Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring staff follow best practice and company policies. Assist with recruitment, training, and performance management of operational personnel. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce risk.

Compliance & Reporting



Maintain accurate transport and health & safety records, logs, and documentation. Track KPIs, report on operational performance, and identify improvement opportunities. Ensure the business meets all legal obligations, industry standards, and internal policies.

Skills & Experience Required



Proven experience in operations management, ideally in transport, logistics, or similar industries. Strong knowledge of transport legislation, fleet management, and driver compliance. Demonstrated experience in health & safety management (NEBOSH or equivalent desirable). Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong leadership abilities with experience managing diverse operational teams. Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, and react quickly to issues. Proficient in using transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications



NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards) preferred. Transport Manager CPC (optional but advantageous). Valid driver's licence.
