Description
A Transport Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the HGV fleet. Ensure full compliance with transport legislation and optimise fleet performance and manage driver teams to deliver excellent service standards. This is a key leadership role within our logistics operation, contributing directly to our business performance and customer satisfaction. This is a full-time position. Flexibility in working hours is essential to meet the operational demands of the business, which may include early starts, late finishes, or weekend work depending on business requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing day to day operations of a varied fleet (medium size) ranging from Tippers, ROROs, Arctics of approximately 45 vehicles and 15 trailers.
- Auditing regularly to ensure full compliance with all relevant transport regulations, including EU Drivers' Hours rules, Working Time Directive, FORS, and DVSA Earned Recognition procedures are being adhered to.
- Manage and maintain the company's Operator Licence and ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, taxed, and insured.
- Carry out all accident information gathering and providing details to our Insurance Company and internally.
- Keep accurate records of vehicle servicing, defects, driver hours, and tachograph data.
- Supervise and support a team of HGV drivers, including recruitment, training, performance monitoring, and disciplinary matters.
- Identifying training requirements for all employees in the transport department.
- Responsible for ER issues such as absence management, sickness, and holiday allocation of HGV drivers.
- Work with the DVSA/FORS to maintain our accreditations.
- Respond swiftly to incidents or accidents, ensuring investigations and reports are completed.
- Manage expectations and ensure customer satisfaction by providing exceptional service and delivering results that meet or exceed expectations.
- Liaising with on-site workshop in order to ensure that vehicle maintenance records are retained for a period of no less than 15 months.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Transport Management (Road Haulage) - essential
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager or similar role within HGV Fleet operations.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of transport legislation, compliance and driver management.
- Exceptional organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks effectively.
