Transport Manager
, you'll play a
key role
in
upholding
our
'On Time, In Full'
promise--ensuring our customers receive their orders reliably, punctually, and without compromise. This role involves
close coordination with
the
despatch
and
production teams
, along with
oversight of
a team of
drivers
and
vehicles
. You will ensure every delivery is well-planned, on time, and compliant with relevant legislation while proactively identifying improvements to support business growth and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Route Planning:
Develop and manage efficient daily delivery routes, ensuring driver schedules comply with legal requirements and service levels.
Team Leadership:
Lead, support, and develop our team of drivers, ensuring they follow company procedures and maintain high levels of safety and professionalism.
Legal Compliance:
Monitor driver hours, tachograph data, and working time regulations to always ensure legal compliance.
Fleet Oversight:
Work with the maintenance team to ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, serviced regularly, and documentation is kept up to date.
Communication:
Act as the main point of contact for transport-related issues, both internally and externally, and communicate effectively with drivers, despatch, production, and customer service teams.
Health & Safety:
Uphold and promote the highest health & safety standards across all transport operations.
Problem-Solving:
Quickly address and resolve issues relating to routing, breakdowns, delays, or customer service complaints.
Reporting & KPIs:
Monitor and report on transport performance, ensuring data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
Collaboration:
Work closely with despatch, and production colleagues to ensure a seamless end-to-end logistics process.
Essential Criteria
Experience:
At least 5 years of experience in a transport management role, ideally within a manufacturing or fast-paced logistics environment.
Compliance Knowledge:
Working knowledge of tachograph rules, driver hours legislation, and the ability to monitor and act on digital tachograph data.
Leadership:
Proven experience leading and developing driver teams, setting expectations, and maintaining performance standards.
Organisation:
Strong planning and scheduling skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple deliveries and maintain high levels of accuracy.
Problem Solving:
Proactive mindset with the ability to resolve routing, vehicle, or delivery issues promptly and effectively.
IT Skills:
Confident using transport management systems or routing software to plan and track deliveries.
Driving Licence:
Full UK driving licence is required.
Desirable Criteria
FLT Licence:
A valid forklift truck (FLT) certificate is desirable for flexibility during high-demand periods.
Driver CPC & Digital Tachograph Card:
Desirable for added flexibility and deeper compliance insight.
CPC Knowledge:
Working knowledge of the responsibilities covered under a Transport Manager CPC, including vehicle compliance, maintenance scheduling, and operator licence obligations.
