Purpose of the Role:
As Transport Manager, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of the transport department. This includes managing drivers and a Transport Coordinator, planning routes, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, and promoting high standards of safety and service. You will play a key role in achieving operational efficiency, maintaining customer satisfaction, and supporting the business's long-term goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and manage the daily scheduling of skip and roll-on roll-off vehicle deliveries and collections.
Lead, support, and motivate the transport team to ensure high performance and compliance.
Oversee fleet usage, fuel efficiency, and transport budgets to support cost-effective and environmentally responsible operations.
Ensure all drivers and vehicles meet safety and legal requirements, including the management of tachograph data and vehicle inspections.
Work in partnership with the Workshop and Fleet teams to maintain roadworthy, clean, and safe vehicles.
Conduct regular training sessions, toolbox talks, and team briefings to promote safety, compliance, and customer service standards.
Handle customer complaints professionally, working with internal teams to resolve issues promptly and effectively.
Maintain accurate records of transport activities and update all transport policies and procedures as needed.
Contribute to sustainability goals through efficient route planning and emission reduction strategies.
Support the business in maintaining accreditation standards, including the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).
Requirements:
Eligibility to work in the UK.
Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) for Transport Managers - valid and up to date
Full UK driving licence
A minimum of 5 years' experience in transport or logistics, including at least two years in a supervisory or management role
Strong understanding of transport legislation, health and safety standards, and fleet operations
Competence in using transport management systems, route planning software, and Microsoft Office
Proven experience in team leadership, resource management and performance monitoring
Familiarity with the Oxfordshire area and surrounding counties
Desirable:
IOSH Training
Interest in sustainability and environmental practices
