We are seeking a skilled Programmer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining software applications tailored to our operational needs. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a strong technical background and a keen eye for detail to contribute to innovative projects within a collaborative environment.
Duties of a Turret Punch Programmer (RADAN / Amada CAD/CAM)1. CNC Program Creation
Create CNC programs for
turret punch presses
using RADAN or Amada AP100/Dr. Abe Bend software.
Select appropriate tools, punches, and notches based on machine capabilities.
Optimize part orientation and tool selection to minimize tool changes and increase punching speed.
2. CAD Model Preparation
Interpret engineering drawings.
Clean up or simplify geometry for manufacturability.
Apply correct tolerances and compensate for material thickness and kerf where needed.
3. Nesting
Perform
sheet nesting
to maximize material utilization.
Arrange multiple parts on a sheet efficiently to reduce scrap.
Generate nested layouts using automatic or manual nesting features in RADAN/Amada software.
4. Tool Path Optimization
Define punch sequences, hit patterns, micro-joints, and lead-ins where required.
Optimize tool paths for:
minimal machine movement
reduced cycle time
avoidance of collision or sheet movement issues
5. Machine Setup Instructions
Generate setup sheets for machine operators:
tool lists
tooling positions
sheet size
material type and thickness
special instructions for forming tools, embossing, tapping, etc.
6. Collaboration With Engineering & Production
Work with design engineers to improve part manufacturability.
Coordinate with production supervisors and machine operators to solve issues or clarify requirements.
Suggest design changes to reduce punching time or tooling costs.
7. Quality & Process Control
Ensure programs comply with quality and safety standards.
Update tooling libraries and maintain accurate machine configurations.
Check for common errors (double hits, incorrect tool sizes, unsafe sheet movement paths).
8. Continuous Improvement
Analyse production data to improve cycle times and nesting efficiency.
Maintain and update software libraries, tooling databases, and standard templates.
Suggest improvements in workflow, tooling, and programming strategy.
9. Documentation & File Management
Organize program files with proper naming conventions.
Maintain revision control for updated part drawings and programs.
Store nests, program logs, and job travellers as per company procedures.
Summary
A programmer using
RADAN
or
Amada CAD/CAM
is responsible for turning engineering drawings into efficient, safe, and manufacturable CNC punch programs, optimizing material usage, and supporting operators on the shop floor.
Skills
Strong understanding of fabrication processes, grinding, welding, and mechanical knowledge
