Job Description

THE ROLE



Trefoil Tutors are looking to employ a part-time Teacher of Mathematics to teach between six and eight 90-minute-long lessons to small groups of up to six students. Classes are arranged by year group, with the successful candidate teaching students from Year 4 to Year 11, or Year 7 to Year 13, subject to the candidate's specialism. The Scheme of Work and a full set of teaching materials is provided.

The lessons would take place on a weekly basis during term-time, on weekday evenings or weekends at our office in Elstree.

The successful candidate should have a passion for Mathematics, hold a Mathematics-based degree and have experience in teaching. FQT status and school teaching experience are preferred but not essential.

The successful candidate must be able to start running the Mathematics group lessons in September 2025 and commit to the position for the academic year.

ABOUT THE COMPANY



Trefoil Tutors was founded in 2011 with the aim of bringing a new level of professionalism to tutoring in North London. We are incredibly proud of the quality of teaching and learning we deliver across a range of different subjects in order to augment and support the work done at school with our structured schemes of work and bespoke resources. More than a decade on, our tutors now teach over 300 students a week in Mathematics, English, Reasoning and Science.

We pride ourselves in not being a "tutoring agency" but rather qualified teachers and experienced tutors who see tutoring as a vocation in itself. Our tutors are supported by a full-time administrative team who assist the tutors in order to ensure they can spend their time focusing on delivering outstanding teaching and learning. Lessons take place weekly during term-time and are taught in purpose-built classrooms at our office in Elstree.

JOB DESCRIPTION



The successful candidate will be asked to teach structured and engaging Mathematics lessons to students from Year 4 to Year 11 or Year 7 to Year 13.

In order to maintain the consistency of teaching and learning across the company, the following will be provided:

A full scheme of work Weekly assignments Three-weekly assessments Classwork materials Weekly Teaching videos from the Lead Mathematics Tutor
The successful candidate will be expected to alter and enrich these resources throughout the academic year and support our Lead Mathematics Tutor in his work.

Hours



This is a flexible role, and the hours will be discussed with the successful candidate with specific days and times negotiable. This is an excellent role for a candidate who is interested in transitioning from school teaching to tutoring, and as such the quantity of lessons taught can be increased over time based on the changing requirements of both the tutor and the company. Please note that our lessons will take place between 4:30pm and 9:20pm on weekdays, and / or between 10am and 9pm on weekends.

Salary



We are offering a competitive salary dependent on experience and in line with Independent Schools in the North London area. The salary range given is for a full-time position.

Weeks and timetable



The contract is based on 36 weeks of term-time teaching in a calendar year and four additional weeks dedicated to parent report meetings, continued professional development and lesson preparation.

Classes



Over the course of a twelve week term, you will teach 90-minute-long lessons with groups of up to six students. This could include running classes from Year 4 to Year 11 or Year 7 to Year 13 depending on the candidate's experience and expertise.

Long and tiring parents evenings are replaced by parent report meetings that take place three times a year and are scheduled within the non-teaching week, at times convenient for the tutor.

Resources



All lesson materials and resources for the Mathematics course have already been produced by our Lead Mathematics tutor.

Allocated time for planning and evaluating lessons



Each lesson taught has an additional hour allocated to planning, marking and feedback, allowing you to consistently provide high quality tutoring.

START DATE



The candidate should be ready to start the role on 1st September, 2025. The role is permanent with a six-month probation period.
