We invite you to bring your expertise to the role of UK Building Services Design & Technical Excellence Director at Ramboll. We are looking for an inspirational leader to join our UK Building Services Senior Leadership to continue to develop our overarching UK Building Services design capability, in conjunction with the UK Head of Building Services and four Regional Heads of Department; leading on design and technical excellence and the continued digitalisation of our business.

About the role

Ramboll has ambitious growth plans in the UK and its thriving Building Services division is central to these growth plans. The UK Building Services team encompasses more than 200 engineers based across the UK and India, with aspirations to grow organically to over 250 engineers by the end of 2025.

\xe2\x80\x9cDesign, Innovation, Technical Excellence and Digital Transformation\xe2\x80\x9d is one of five key pillars of the current UK Building Services Strategy and the new Design Director will lead this ongoing initiative for the discipline to put Ramboll at the forefront of purposeful design. The new Design Director will therefore demonstrate a commitment to design, design thinking and design practice that such a role demands; and will work nationally to enhance our culture of excellence in design and bring our best early-stage design and conceptual thinking to our key strategic clients and projects.

Ramboll\'s strategy to be the \'Partner for Sustainable Change\' is fundamental to our continued evolution and intrinsic to everything we do. As our new Design and Technical Excellence (D&TE) Director, you will also possess extensive knowledge of sustainability targets, carbon management, regenerative design and low/NZC building design. These skills will allow implementation of the strategy both within Ramboll, but more importantly to our clients.

This is a high-profile role and the New D&TE Director will be expected to provide significant influence both externally and internally. We would expect the new Director to have, and continue to develop, a high profile in the industry, continuing to help raise our profile and reputation with clients and institutions. Internally they will use their knowledge, skills and experience to earn the respect of their colleagues whilst providing significant influence on our continued evolution.

This role will report into the UK Head of Building Services.

You will join our Building Services leadership team

As our new Design Director, you join our currently 5 strong Building Services senior leadership team (currently comprising the UK Head of Building Services and four Regional Heads of Department).

To support your role and the continued evolution of the building services team, you will help direct and lead the following key Directors already in post:

Head of Digital Strategy: The Head of Digital strategy for Building Services primary purpose is to set and implement the direction of our engineering digital strategy and to create a harmonised digital engineering offer across the UK Building Services Team. To do this they are responsible for our \xe2\x80\x9cUK building services digital steering group\xe2\x80\x9d to lead and undertake development cycles.

Head of Digital Delivery: The Head of Digital Delivery for Building Services primary purpose is to ensure our day-to-day delivery of Revit digital models are robust and consistent across the UK Building Services Team. They are responsible for advancing and maintaining our Revit template, along with developing and managing all Building Services Technicians.

Head of Knowledge Management: The Head of Knowledge Management primary purpose is to manage and maintain our specifications, knowledge portal, colleague\'s competences, training records and professional development.

You will also sit on the Global Design Excellence Board (DEB) and be the primary interface for the UK Building Services Business with the global Ramboll Building Services teams.

Main Role Responsibilities

As a senior hire, the Design Director will help to refine and craft their role as they embed themselves into the business, however we would expect the successful candidate to take on the following key responsibilities:

Participate and actively contribute to the overall Ramboll Buildings strategy whilst guiding the best path for design and technical development.

Direct and lead the development of our Design, Innovation, Technical Excellence and Digital Transformation strategy across the whole of the UK.

Work closely with Ramboll\'s \'Head of Design for Buildings\' to ensure \'Design Excellence\' is part of our DNA.

Encourage creative thinking across all aspects of the business, actively encouraging a collaborative culture.

Establish methods of common working (include the development of digital design platforms) across the UK building services teams, to foster a culture of knowledge and work sharing, and ensure that technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organisation in conjunction with Building Services Team Leaders and technical leads.

Promote and embed a culture of continuous improvement, quality and technical excellence. This will include the development of new working processes.

Act as a design/technical point of contact to wider Global Ramboll Building Services Teams.

Raise the profile and reputation of Ramboll\'s building services design capabilities in the UK and internationally. Candidates will be expected to be able to market our offering via networking, business to business meetings, seminars, thought leadership and general business development.

Lead the innovation and research and development initiatives within the Building Services teams, including links with universities.

Lead the operational management, planning and delivery of design and technical excellence initiatives, within budgeted time allowances.

Liaise with the Building Services Heads of Departments (HODs) to proactively deliver technical development on \'live\' fee earning projects, whenever possible.

When appropriate, seek additional funding for R&D, product development, technical upgrades, software etc, by preparing business cases and lobbying for their approval.

Monitor and assist in the software development process and ensure deadlines set, are realistic and achievable.

Influence work winning and growth of the Ramboll Buildings team.

Take on Project Director / Project Owner responsibilities on notable projects

Bachelors/Master\'s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and Chartered Engineer, having a proven and demonstrable track record in your discipline.

Previous experience with leading and delivering major projects in the industry.

Expert knowledge of MEP Design with demonstrable appreciation of sustainable design.

Forward thinking and enthusiastic about digital design innovation and \'smart design\' in increasingly digitalised construction arena.

A notable profile and reputation as a highly regarded and trusted Building Services leader.

Solid client facing skills, experienced at presenting to clients, preparing and negotiating proposals, and procuring project resources.

Be comfortable in communicating our Business Plan, Mission and key priorities.

Ability to motivate, influence and develop multidisciplinary professional teams.

Effective English oral, graphical and written communication skills.
