We are a specialist recruitment agency currently supporting a well-established furniture manufacturing factory in Sheffield in their search for an experienced Upholsterer. This is a permanent, full-time role within a busy production environment where you will be responsible for upholstering high-quality furniture (sofas, chairs, and other pieces) to exacting standards. The successful candidate will work as part of a skilled team, helping to meet daily production targets while maintaining excellent craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Upholstery Installation: Apply and secure fabrics, leather, foam, and padding to furniture frames in line with design specifications and quality requirements.
- Material Cutting and Measuring: Accurately measure, mark, and cut materials, ensuring precise pattern matching and minimal waste.
- Assembly and Framing: Fit padding, webbing, springs, foam, and cushions to frames, achieving the correct shape, comfort, and durability.
- Reupholstery: Strip and re-upholster existing frames when required, restoring furniture to a high standard.
- Quality Control: Inspect all completed work for defects in stitching, alignment, tension, and overall finish before passing to the next stage of production.
- Tool and Equipment Usage: Safely operate staple guns, sewing machines, tack hammers, foam cutters, and other upholstery tools.
- Product Customisation: Adapt techniques and materials for bespoke or special orders as directed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with frame makers, machinists, and finishers to maintain smooth production flow.
- Maintenance of Workspace: Keep your workstation tidy and organised, and report any equipment faults immediately.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Strictly follow all factory safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience as an Upholsterer in a factory or furniture manufacturing environment (minimum 2 years preferred).
- Strong knowledge of traditional and modern upholstery techniques and materials (fabric, leather, foam, etc.).
- Excellent attention to detail and a genuine pride in producing high-quality work.
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings, patterns, and cutting lists.
- Proficiency with all standard upholstery tools and machinery.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced production team.
