Overview Pride Veterinary Referrals is a busy, multidisciplinary referral hospital located in Derbyshire, UK committed to providing the highest standards of patient care and has an expanding programme of postgraduate training (internships and residencies). We strive to deliver world class patient care and our fantastic facilities provide a superb environment, these include 13 consultation rooms, 7 inpatient wards, dedicated intensive care unit, 5 theatres, full advanced imaging suite (CT and MRI), 2 ultrasound rooms, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool and treadmill and dedicated chemotherapy. Pride Veterinary Referrals is a teaching hospital, in full collaboration with University of Nottingham Veterinary School. This provides the opportunity to support teaching and research interests.
The Team
The neurology specialty intern will be supervised and work on daily contact with three ECVN Diplomats, and three ECVN residents, supported by European and American Specialist clinicians in a wide range of disciplines alongside the team of residents and interns.
The Role
The successful candidate will ideally have experience in first opinion practice and, ideally have completed a rotating internship and wants more experience within Neurology. As part of this role you will be involved in the daily care of patients, consultations, diagnostic procedures and neurosurgeries, Interns participate in hospital rounds, journal and clubs, monthly topic reviews and regular neuropathology training.
Upon completion of the internship programme, the successful neurology intern will have acquired skills/knowledge to include training in neurological examination and localisation, performing a neurology consult under the supervision of a neurologist, CSF collection and analysis, interpretation of MRI, CT and spinal radiography, exposure to electrodiagnostic studies.
In addition to the neurology specific training, our interns are involved in covering a small amount of weekend duties to facilitate care for all inpatients. We are looking for 2 neurology interns to support the busy team. The successful candidates will be expected to start in the beginning of January 2026 and the second to start at the end of February 2026
Required skills and experienceSuccessfully completed a 12-month rotating internship
Registered with the RCVS by the proposed start date
Strong interest in small animal neurology and neurosurgery
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
Would be good to haveSome experience in neurology and an interest in pursuing a Residency
Good sense of humour and team work
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
