We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Receptionist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be the first point of contact for clients and their pets, providing exceptional customer service while managing the administrative tasks of our veterinary practice. This role requires a genuine love for animals, excellent communication skills, a 'can do' attitude and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Open and close the clinic, ensuring everything is ready for the day's operations
Greet clients and their pets in a friendly, welcoming manner
Answer phone calls and schedule appointments, redirecting inquiries as needed
Prepare client forms ahead of appointments and ensure proper paperwork is completed
Handle emergency cases with care, providing comfort to clients and animals
Ensure up-to-date vaccination records and inform the vet or nurse of any urgent cases
Process payments and manage invoicing, ensuring accuracy
Assist with general office tasks such as filing, cleaning, and keeping the clinic organised
Work closely with the team of veterinary professionals, and volunteers to ensure smooth operations
We may ask that you train or cover holiday at our Colchester clinic, so the ability to drive and flexibility to cover Colchester if required is essential.
Handle client concerns with empathy and professionalism, escalating issues to management when necessary.
Requirements
Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written
A passion for animals and a commitment to helping those in need
A friendly, professional demeanour with the ability to stay calm under pressure
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Essential to have computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic veterinary software
Previous experience in a similar role, particularly within a veterinary clinic or charity sector, is desirable
A good understanding of veterinary procedures and terminology (preferred)
Ability to work well within a team and demonstrate flexibility
Experience with GDPR and health and safety procedures is a plus
Able to pass a DBS check and demonstrate eligibility to work in the UK
A full UK driving license and willingness to travel to our Colchester clinic when required
