Job Description

The role of Volunteer Pantry Delivery Driver at St Giles Trust involves collecting and delivering food supplies to Camberwell Pantry, a social supermarket aiding those in hardship. The position requires a valid driving licence, physical fitness, and adherence to food safety standards. The charity supports disadvantaged individuals to become positive community contributors.

This role plays a vital part in supporting the

Camberwell Pantry

a community-focused social supermarket that enables individuals and families facing hardship to access affordable, nutritious food in a dignified way. Clients can use the Pantry for up to six months while also being connected to a wider network of support services that help build resilience and independence.


As a

Volunteer Pantry Delivery Driver

, you will be responsible for collecting food supplies from our community partners and ensuring they are transported safely and promptly to the Camberwell Pantry. Your role is essential in keeping the Pantry well-stocked and running smoothly, directly contributing to our mission of tackling food insecurity and supporting people to overcome barriers and challenges they face.


You will be part of a comprehensive Pantry team service delivering across St Giles Trust that is mindful of, and promotes the organisation's Vision, Mission, Values and strategic aims.

(1) Key Deliverables

Main responsibilities consist of:

Safely drive between food collection points and St Giles Pantry sites across London. Load and unload food in line with food safety and manual handling guidelines. Ensure the vehicle is checked for cleanliness, fuel, and safety before use. Report any incidents, delays, or concerns to the Pantry Team Leader. Maintain polite and courteous conduct with all staff, volunteers, and clients. Adapt calmly and responsibly to changing circumstances such as traffic or delays. Maintain accurate records if requested (e.g. delivery logs, fuel receipts).
Deliveries -


On the road and at the Pantries you will be representing St Giles and so you'll:

Drive safely and responsibly at all times, complying with road laws and standards. Promote the values of St Giles Trust through courteous, respectful conduct. Maintain professionalism in all interactions with partners, staff, and members of the public. Uphold safeguarding and confidentiality practices at all times
For some of your journeys you will be autonomous, collecting and delivering food, whilst receiving support with unloading on arrival. At all times you will ensure that you are following St Giles health and safety policy and food safety standards protocols to consistently ensure safe collection and delivery of food is maintained.

Experience

A full and valid driving licence. (A) You must be physically fit to be able to manually load heavy items into a van. (A) Experience of working in a similar van delivery role, preferably in food distribution and use of chilled vehicles. (Desirable)

Awareness of food safety and hygiene procedures; holding a qualification or willingness to work towards one.
