Waking Nights Senior Residential Support Worker
, you'll play a vital leadership role during the night, ensuring the safety, stability, and emotional wellbeing of young people, while guiding and supporting the night team to deliver exceptional care.
About the Role
As a
Senior Support Worker - Therapeutic Practitioner (Waking Nights)
, you'll lead by example, supporting children with complex emotional and behavioural needs during the night. You'll also supervise and mentor waking night staff, ensuring care remains consistent, safe, and therapeutically grounded. This leadership position combines direct care responsibilities with shift coordination and compliance monitoring, playing a key role in our 24/7 therapeutic environment.
What You'll Do
Lead night shifts and provide supervision to waking night staff
Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all children overnight
Act as a role model and key worker, contributing to care planning and emotional support
Respond to incidents or emotional needs in a calm, therapeutic manner
Conduct routine checks and maintain clear, accurate records throughout the night
Support smooth transitions into the morning shift, including waking routines
Promote safeguarding practices and uphold high standards of care
Assist with rota planning, staff performance, and training/development
Maintain compliance with Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and OFSTED standards
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
Minimum 2 years' experience in a children's residential care setting
Proven ability to lead shifts and supervise team members
In-depth knowledge of safeguarding, risk management, and therapeutic practice
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (or working towards it)
Experience supporting children with trauma, SEMH, and neurodiverse conditions (e.g., ASD, ADHD)
Familiarity with OFSTED regulations and multi-agency collaboration
