About the Role
As a
Waking Night Support Worker
, you'll provide vital overnight support and supervision to children and young people, ensuring their safety and wellbeing through the night. You'll work a 2-week rolling rota, covering 4 shifts one week (including a weekend night) and 3 shifts the next, each from 8:00 PM to 8:30 AM.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining a calm and secure atmosphere, supporting individual needs, assisting with personal care as needed, and liaising with daytime teams to ensure continuity of care. You will play a crucial role in monitoring wellbeing, encouraging positive routines, and responding promptly to any needs or concerns during the night.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent, attentive overnight care tailored to individual needs
Support personal care and daily living tasks as required
Ensure a safe, calm, and nurturing environment throughout the night
Monitor behaviour and wellbeing, reporting any changes or concerns promptly
Communicate effectively with children, families, and the day team to ensure seamless care
Maintain accurate records of overnight observations and activities
Respond calmly and appropriately to any incidents or emergencies
Contribute to personalised care plans and follow agreed support strategies
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Experience supporting children or young people, ideally in residential or similar settings
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and positive relationships
Patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuine commitment to making a difference
Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies
Flexibility to work night shifts including weekends
Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Desirable:
Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or Children and Young People's Workforce
First aid certification
Experience managing challenging behaviours
Full driving licence
