Job Description

Warehouse Manager - Chorley - Contact Solar

Looking to build a career in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling, customer-focused company? You've come to the right place.

About Us

Contact Solar is one of the largest solar installation companies in the UK and is now proudly part of the EDF Energy Group. We specialise in solar PV and battery storage, delivering exceptional customer service supported by an in-house technical team. With thousands of installations completed each year and a 4.9/5 rating on Trustpilot and Google, our reputation is built on quality, transparency, and operational excellence.

As we continue to scale nationally, our warehouse function is becoming one of the most critical areas of the business, and we're recruiting a Warehouse Manager to take it to the next level.

The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced, forward-thinking Warehouse Manager with a proven track record in warehouse management systems, kit dispatch control, large-scale procurement, and Health & Safety leadership.

This role goes far beyond day-to-day supervision. You will be responsible for developing and embedding a best-in-class warehouse operation capable of supporting our growth trajectory with EDF, including significantly higher stock volumes and national distribution of solar equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Management System (WMS) Implementation & Control

Lead the deployment, integration, and ongoing optimisation of a new Warehouse Management System. Ensure complete digitisation of stock movements, barcoding, tracking, and reporting. Drive data accuracy and continuous improvement through system-driven processes.

Kit Dispatch & Accuracy

Oversee the full kit-build process for solar PV and battery storage installations. Ensure the highest accuracy of dispatches using strict checks, documentation, and accountability procedures. Maintain close communication with installation teams to guarantee correct kit delivery nationwide.

Procurement & Stock Control

Manage multi-million-pound procurement cycles, including ordering large volumes of panels, inverters, batteries, racking, and balance-of-system components from worldwide suppliers. Build strong supplier relationships and negotiate competitive pricing. Maintain optimal stock levels to support 400+ installations per month. Forecast demand and avoid shortages or overstocking.

Health & Safety Leadership

Own all warehouse Health & Safety processes, compliance, and culture. Conduct regular audits, training, risk assessments, and toolbox talks. Ensure full compliance with all H&S regulations, safe handling, and storage of heavy and high-value goods.

Operations Oversight

Manage receiving, storage, and distribution of solar equipment. Optimise warehouse layout for efficiency and safe workflow. Introduce continuous improvements across stock flow, organisation, and dispatch operations.

Staff Management & Development

Lead, mentor, and motivate warehouse staff. Establish high-performance standards and professional development pathways. Foster a positive, structured, and accountable team environment.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

Proven experience managing warehouse operations at scale. Demonstrable experience deploying or running a Warehouse Management System (WMS). Experience procuring and managing large-value stock orders from worldwide suppliers. Strong understanding of logistics, dispatch workflows, and inventory control. Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills. Solid understanding of Health & Safety and risk management. Ability to work at pace, with accuracy and accountability. Forklift licence advantageous.

Desirable

Experience within solar, construction, M&E, or technical goods distribution. Experience supporting a business undergoing significant scaling or transformation.

The Candidate We Want

A natural leader who thrives in a structured, fast-paced environment. Someone who can build processes, not just follow them. Highly analytical, organised, and detail-focused. Capable of transforming a warehouse into a high-performance, system-driven operation. Confident dealing with suppliers, installers, auditors, and senior management. Able to implement change and drive continuous improvement.

Benefits

45k Salary Monday to Friday 30 days annual leave, including bank holidays. No evenings or weekends. Company pension scheme. EDF discounted energy tariff. 500 customer referral scheme. Opportunities for progression as the business scales. Annual company events and nights out.
