As a Waste Minimisation Officer, you will be responsible for driving waste minimisation, reuse, and recycling within Blackpool through working with residents, key stakeholders, community organisations, and schools.
You will look at new and innovative ways of further improving our waste reduction and recycling rates and will recommend and help implement the introduction of these new arrangements. In addition, you will be responsible for the communications plan and will be required to carry out some enforcement activities.
Ultimately, you will play a key role in improving our services that affect absolutely everyone in our community.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
Engage with residents, schools, community groups, and businesses to encourage better rates of waste recycling.
Organise and actively participate in road shows, events, presentations to the public, schools, elected members, community groups, businesses, or other relevant bodies to increase the awareness of the importance of recycling and waste minimisation issues.
Develop a communication plan to actively assist households, the community, and businesses in waste minimisation, re use and recycling initiatives; including updating of website and social media channels.
Liaise with internal and external colleagues to identify areas not participating in the recycling scheme and to take appropriate action when identified.
Analyse performance information to identify those properties that are contaminating recycling containers and take appropriate action.
Develop and maintain a robust database of recycling throughout Blackpool, including recycling quality.
Reporting on waste and recycling targets and KPI's, including waste data flow information.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of legislation relating to recycling and keep abreast of all aspects of waste minimisation, reuse, and recycling.
Assist in the development of recycling projects and assist in researching to assess established and new recycling initiatives.
Produce and maintain a database of statistical information relating to recycling and waste management, integrating with Bartec 'Collective' system (specialist computer software).
To work with colleagues in Blackpool Council Waste and Environmental Operations to ensure that, where appropriate, enforcement action is taken against residents who contaminate or misuse council waste containers.
The post holder will be required to occasionally work outside standard office hours.
To undertake such other duties, training, and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are commensurate and consistent with the post.

About you
Minimum of 5 GCSE's, including Maths and English
Full Driving licence
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including residents
