We are an award winning, internationally recognised Living Museum with 50 historic buildings and gardens set in the beautiful South Downs National Park. With extraordinary buildings, fascinating artefacts, glorious surroundings and friendly, dedicated people, the Weald and Downland Living Museum is a unique and rewarding place to work.

We are looking for a Duty Manager to support the daily operations of the museum over a weekend. You will be responsible for daily site Security, Health & Safety of staff, volunteers, members of the public and other building users always at the forefront, and the highest standards of customer service. You will be central to the Museum's core operation. Reporting to the Senior Duty Manager.

Due to the nature of the large site, this role is physically demanding and will require you to be on your feet for long periods of time.

Role Purpose



To be the museum's daily front-line leader on a weekend. Acting as an ambassador, problem-solver, and operations coordinator. Your key focus areas:

Ensuring a high-quality visitor experience. Supporting and coordinating volunteers and demonstrators. Overseeing daily opening, operations, and closing. Ensuring safety, security, and accessibility.

Responsibilities



Unlocking the site and ensuring that everything is presented and operating as it should be by carrying out pre-opening checks. Greeting volunteers and demonstrators on their arrival each morning and liaising with the Museum Teams regarding changes on the day and reassignment of volunteers to ensure appropriate cover in key areas. Supporting Volunteers with Better Impact on arrival of their shift. Attend or deliver the morning briefing, for the day's updates and relevant information sharing. Visiting all the volunteers and demonstrators on site at least twice a day, organising lunch relief as needed. Providing First Aid cover, attending to accidents and emergencies and recording them in the Accident Book or recording near misses, when appropriate. Conducting site walk rounds throughout the day to monitor the quality of the visitor experience and facilities. Resolution of customer complaints, following the museums complaints procedure. Occasionally organising coach and car parking. Promptly responding to any aspects of the visitor experience and facilities not up to our desired standards, with timely reporting to the relevant team. Responding to a wide range of scenarios and being the key decision maker when Senior Leadership are not onsite. Locking the site at the end of the day and carrying out a final walk through to ensure all areas have been vacated by members of the public, left in an appropriate condition and are properly secured.?Ensuring all lights and water taps are turned off at the end of the day in all areas of the site. Setting the intruder alarms of multiple buildings. Passing on relevant information to the Volunteer Coordinator and Visitor Experience Officer working the next day.

Skills Required



Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enjoys working with the public and providing memorable experiences. Demonstrable enthusiasm and energy, adaptability and reliability Good initiative and judgement, with the ability to problem solve and make appropriate decisions Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills An understanding of relevant Health and Safety areas, taking appropriate responsibility and action Ability to work within a team or autonomously with a flexible and proactive can-do approach. Computer literate First aid certificate would be an advantage but not an initial requirement. (Training will be provided)

It is Important to note that the successful candidate for this role will require an enhanced DBS check.

Pay: 12,240.00 per year
