Weetons Butchery Department: The role
We are looking for a customer and sales centric, skilled Butcher with proven retail & butchery success, to join our successful and expanding Butchery department within our food hall destination here at Weetons Leeds Road.
Our expert Butchery Team meticulously prepares all seasonal produce on-site, ensuring the highest standards of quality and freshness. To achieve unmatched tenderness and flavour, our in-house dry-ager carefully matures meat for up to 50 days, delivering exceptional results.
We proudly source all our meat locally, including our exquisite free-range chickens from Nidderdale. These birds are raised in open environments and fed a natural diet, resulting in richer, more tender meat.
Our ethos goes beyond just delivering exceptional meat, we are proud to support local farmers and suppliers, investing within our community and backing their commitment to animal quality and welfare.
Duties and responsibilities:
Customer Service Excellence:
Assisting customers with selecting produce, providing recommendations, and ensuring Exceptional Everyday customer service is achieved.
Meat Preparation:
Ensuring meat is properly butchered, cut, and prepared according to our specification, maintain high product quality.
Supporting the Management of Stock:
Assisting the Butchery manager in ordering and managing stock, ensuring stock quality control and proper storage.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensuring the butchery department is clean and meets health and safety standards in line with our expectations and EHO requirements.
Merchandising & Visual Standards:
Ensuring all stock is merchandised in line with VM guidance to maximise sales and maintain brand consistency. Monitor multi-deck and counter stock levels and coordinate / communicate timely replenishment.
Driving Sales & Margin / Reducing Costs:
working with the Butchery Manager to implement strategies to increase sales, promoting high-margin cuts and offering value-added, high-quality products. Minimising waste and unnecessary cost.
Leading by example:
Displaying excellent butchery and customer skills for more junior members to emulate, providing guidance on proper techniques, food safety, and exceptional customer service.
Quality Control
: Inspecting meat for quality, freshness, and safety, including supporting the proper handling and storage to reduce spoilage and maintain high product standards.
Maintaining Equipment:
Ensuring knives, saws, and all other butcher tools are sharp, cleaned, and properly maintained to avoid unnecessary downtime or additional costs.
Butchery Operations & Compliance:
Support in the day-to-day operational tasks including opening, closing and department cleaning to ensure the butchery environment remains clean, safe, and compliant
Skills Required:
PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY CANDIDATE MUST HAVE SIGNIFICANT BUTCHERY & RETAIL SKILL & EXPERIENCE
