Salary - 29,700 - 36,000 - Target salary for this role is 33,000.

This role is based at our National Construction College- Scotland, located at Inchinnan, Renfrew. This role is not suitable for home working.

You will provide support to all learners, focusing on individual health and welfare needs, including supporting learners with their mental health.



You will deliver a programme of positive activities to support personal development and enhance the learner experience. This may involve both on and off-site activities.


Are you confident, with a good understanding of how to work professionally with young people and adults. You will be supporting learners who stay away from home whilst studying with CITB.


You will work as part of a team of Welfare Officers, working closely with other teams across the College, liaising with parents/carers/employers and external agencies.


Safeguarding is a big part of the job, and we take it very seriously: you will play a key part in safeguarding our learners.


You will demonstrate great organisation and administration skills. You will be competent in managing your time, using a range of systems to accurately maintain welfare records. You will also complete administrative duties, such as compliance and Health & Safety records.


You will cover the duties of care for our learners, providing pastoral and safeguarding support to ensure their holistic well-being and welfare.


You will take responsibility for your own professional approach and commitment to the role, supporting and safeguarding learners to achieve their potential and gain valuable life, independence, and personal development skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:



Experience of drug and alcohol awareness, including harm reduction strategies Experience of mental health support Good knowledge of health, safety and welfare Great communication skills, with a good level of spoken and written English Quick thinking, assertive and decisive Competent to deal with emergencies, and with the capacity to remain calm whilst under pressure Experience in conflict management and de-escalation interventions Ability to demonstrate sound judgement making Customer focused, with capability to manage the customer relationship Experience of working in a training / education environment with young people Competent use of the business' IT systems Passion and desire to improve the student experience Self-motivated with the capability and confidence to work alone and independently, with minimal supervision Ability to manage and prioritise own workload whilst juggling changing and competing demands Possess good organisational skills Ability to work with individuals in a non-judgmental and supportive manner Maintain a sense of humour, especially when the going gets tough

Essential



Post holders will have good level of education, minimum 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) at a minimum grade 4 to include maths and English Experience in working with 16+ age group preferably within in an education setting IT literate and comfortable working with systems such as SharePoint and Microsoft Office Excellent communication skills in both writing and orally Able to deliver excellent customer service

Youthwork experience/qualification Counselling experience

Willing to undertake:



First aid at work and/or FREC 3 Health and Safety Awareness Mental Health First Aid or awareness Safeguarding training

Working hours will be:




35 Hours across 5 days.

Special Conditions/Other Requirements:



Able to work non-standard hours as required Able to travel to all CITB National Construction College sites, with some occasional overnight stays possible Full Driving Licence - including D1 Minibus licence - Minibus training will be provided if required PVG Scheme membership
