We are now looking for a Wellbeing Advisor to join our Birmingham campus on a full time, fixed term contract basis, working 37 hours per week.

- THE ROLE -

You will contribute to the ambitions of the University\'s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the implementation of a stepped approach to supporting student mental health and wellbeing. You will have an in-depth knowledge of the impact mental health can have on student experience, retention and achievement whilst at university. You will work as part of a team to deliver appropriate support and interventions to enable students to succeed in their studies.

You will manage a busy caseload of students, providing advice and guidance to students with a range of mental health and wellbeing issues in relation to access and inclusion to educational opportunities in line with equalities legislation.

You will work with stakeholders across the university to promote understanding of the impact of wellbeing and mental health issues across the student population, and to support the delivery of an inclusive university experience. You will contribute to the development and delivery of training and initiatives to staff and students in order to advance this work

- ABOUT YOU -

To be considered as a Wellbeing Advisor you will need:

  • Qualified practitioner in mental health or other appropriate equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of the impact mental health issues can have on students\' transition into HE and the potential impact on student retention and achievement while at university
  • Experience of assessing, recommending and delivering support for people with mental health conditions
  • Experience of identifying and managing risk in relation to people with mental health issues
  • Excellent communication skills to include the ability to work 1:1 with a diverse student population, to deliver training/presentations, and to contribute to meetings and case conferences.
  • Knowledge of a range of wellbeing advisory approaches and methodologies
  • Excellent organisation and administrative skills to effectively prioritise and manage a busy caseload.
  • Excellent team-working skills to include the ability to flexibly support colleagues to meet student needs and ensure the delivery of a quality service.
It would also be beneficial if you had a:
  • Membership of Universities Mental Health Advisors Network (UMHAN) or other relevant professional membership
  • An understanding of inclusive learning and teaching strategies and their relevance to disabled students
  • Experience of supporting students in higher education
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh - oral and written
