WHAT TO EXPECT

We are looking for a Wheels & Tyres Technical Specialist, to provide consistent technical support and direction to the wheel and tyre development team.

You will engage with both internal and external technical experts to help improve processes, set target characteristics and balance programme requirements with the purpose of delivering class-leading ride, handling and steering attribute performance.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Operate as a technical expert for the vehicle dynamics wheel and tyre team
  • Lead and develop the team to achieve consistent, world-class results during virtual and physical tuning loops
  • Subjectively assess ride, handling and steering performance of vehicles in a repeatable, safe manner
  • Lead the benchmarking and target cascade of wheel and tyre vehicle dynamics characteristics during the concept phase of vehicle programmes
  • Analyse objective measurement data to help inform decision-making and set tuning direction
  • Review programme timing, challenging key stakeholders where necessary to ensure physical and virtual submissions align with vehicle/DiL development plans
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure key attribute performance is met
  • Identify critical areas for attribute improvement and lead investigations into how potential improvements could be made
  • Provide technical and strategic expertise to the vehicle dynamics and chassis leadership teams to help initiate new projects and processes
  • Own development of the reporting process and local operating procedures, sharing results with key stakeholders in the engineering community
  • Develop forward-looking and high-level strategies, helping bolster the attribute performance of future model architectures
  • Provide support, mentoring and training to help develop team members reach their full potential
  • Represent the Jaguar Land Rover Vehicle Dynamics team externally as a technical expert in the field of wheels and tyres
WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Through the expertise gained in previous roles, you will lead the team in supporting the introduction of new technologies and play a key part in forward model architectures, robustly justifying technical tyre and wheel characteristics to ensure our future customers receive a supreme and holistic driving experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential -
  • Relevant degree in Automotive Engineering (or similar) along with extensive experience working for a premium OEM or Tier 1 supplier
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tyre design, construction and associated tuning characteristics to achieve desired attribute performance
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subjective and objective assessment of ride, handling and steering performance using a variety of road surfaces and speeds, up to and beyond the limit of tyre adhesion
  • High familiarity with using various European proving ground test facilities and environments
  • Knowledge of wheel rim design, manufacturing characteristics and associated tuning levers
  • Expert in solving complex wheel and tyre technical issues
  • Experience with project management methodologies
  • Excellent technical leadership skills
  • High level of proficiency in tyre models and modelling techniques.
  • Proven experience using DiL simulation during virtual development phases and submissions
Desirable -
  • Experience leading a small team of test and development engineers
  • Experience using data logging and calibration software tools
  • SUV and BEV vehicle development experience
  • Good working knowledge of the Product Creation Delivery System (or similar process)
