The UCKG is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated
in-house WordPress Web Developer
who can take full responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering a clean, fully functional, and SEO-optimised website. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working independently across the full website lifecycle--from concept and structure to development, testing, and final handover.
This is a full-time, office-based role. The developer will report directly to the Communications Manager and receive regular input from church leadership to ensure the final product meets the organisation's needs and expectations. The successful candidate will be confident in managing complex web features, integrating dynamic content, and optimising site performance while ensuring a seamless user experience across all devices.
Duties will include to:
Collaborate with UCKG leadership to finalise the site structure and visual direction
Design a fully responsive, lightweight, and user-friendly website using WordPress
Build or customise features such as:
"Pastor Online" real-time live chat
"Find the nearest branch" GPS/location-based tool
Donation system with secure payment and Gift Aid functionality
Radio streaming integration
User login system for chat and interactions
Alerts, notifications, events calendar, and daily scripture section
Schedule reminders, virtual tour, HelpCentre map, and social media integrations
Migrate and preserve legacy content to ensure SEO continuity
Optimise the site for performance, accessibility, and best practices (PageSpeed/Core Web Vitals)
Test, deploy, and launch the site with full documentation, training, and admin credential handover
Ensure UCKG retains full ownership and control of the website after project completion
Must have:
Proven experience in WordPress development (custom themes, plugins, site builds)
Strong knowledge of PHP and JavaScript
Experience with responsive design and modern UX/UI principles
Ability to work independently and manage a full project from start to finish
Additional Skills:
SEO expertise (technical and on-page)
Strong eye for UX/UI design
Experience integrating payment gateways, live chat systems, and GPS/location tools
Familiarity with performance optimisation and Core Web Vitals
