We are looking for a proactive and reliable Workshop & Field Support Assistant to provide general support to skilled technicians both in our workshop and at client sites. This role involves a variety of hands-on tasks including equipment cleaning, preparing materials, assisting with repairs, maintaining inventory, supporting deployment teams, and carrying out on-site maintenance. You will also travel to site locations when required, assisting field technicians with system deployments, servicing, and fault response. The role requires basic mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, efficiency, and a strong commitment to safety.
Duties
Workshop Support
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the workshop, including floors, tools, equipment, and work areas.
On-Site Support & Travel
Travel to client sites as part of a deployment or maintenance team.
Assist technicians with the setup, installation, and commissioning of equipment.
Support on-site maintenance, including basic fault finding, cleaning, and part replacement.
Safely load, transport, and unload equipment and materials.
Provide hands-on support with lifting, carrying, and positioning heavy equipment.
Repair & Technical Assistance
Assist with disassembly and reassembly of components under supervision.
Hold, prepare, and hand over parts and tools for technicians during repair work.
Carry out simple repairs and adjustments as instructed.
Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Report hazards, defects, or incidents promptly.
Support the maintenance of a safe working environment both in the workshop and on site.
Administrative Tasks
Complete basic paperwork including work orders and inventory records.
Accurately record parts used and tasks completed.
Clean and degrease parts as required, and dispose of waste materials responsibly.
Assist with basic maintenance tasks and preparation of equipment for deployment.
Retrieve, organise, and label materials, tools, and spare parts.
Check and monitor stock levels, reporting shortages to the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
Basic understanding of mechanical principles and tools.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in physically demanding environments.
Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to follow instructions and support skilled technicians.
Good attention to detail and safety awareness.
Practical aptitude with a willingness to learn.
Good concentration for repetitive tasks.
Enthusiasm, reliability, and motivation to work both independently and as part of a team.
Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
Previous experience in a workshop, construction, or technical role.
Electrical or mechanical knowledge.
Familiarity with using hand and power tools.
Technical or vocational qualification in a relevant area.
Things to Consider
A DBS check and basic financial screening will be carried out as part of the recruitment process.
The role involves regular travel to client sites, which may include occasional overnight stays.
