We are looking for an experienced Workshop Foreman to support the safe, efficient and high-quality operation of our Kirkwall based workshop. This role combines technical expertise with team supervision and strong communication, working closely with the Workshop Manager to plan workload, allocate staff, improve processes and deliver excellent service for our customers.

What you'll be doing
Supervise the day-to-day activities of workshop and hire staff
Work closely with the Workshop Manager to plan workload, improve workflow and meet service commitments
Act as Master Technician, diagnosing faults and providing technical leadership
Support the Workshop Manager with staff rotas, resource planning and delegation
Carry out pre-delivery inspections, servicing, repairs and testing to MIS standards
Secure the department and equipment at end of service
Maintain accurate records: job cards, time recording, parts allocation and costings
Support continuous improvement in workshop processes and productivity
Liaise with Parts Department to ensure stock availability for jobs
Assist with hire and technical sales when required
Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety policy and PUWER regulations
Train and mentor new workshop team members
Support performance management and development of workshop engineers
Ensure high standards of housekeeping, tool security and workshop safety
Provide technical support to colleagues and customers
Be available for emergency call-outs as required
About You
HND/HNC or SVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Previous supervisory or team lead experience (desirable)
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and team coordination skills
Able to plan workload and adapt to changing priorities
IT literate and comfortable with maintenance/job systems
Good understanding of Health & Safety
Confident decision-maker who takes ownership and leads by example
